  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI RONIN - independent review and in-depth test

Ronin has an official MAP for EU: €3599 including VAT.

B4 looks like a good bet as well...

Very helpful info! Looks like a great piece of equipment.

Bummer about the massive weight. MoVI and H14 are probably going to be the better options for flying, unfortunately.

Thank you Peter! Look forward to reading more.

The Swedish dealer taking care of my Group Buy Ronin. I don't know whether the MAP varies between countries based on respective VAT-%, however. Sweden has a VAT of 25%.

From the above video, its really great to see units being tested! But, I've got a couple of questions I hope DJI could answer.

1. Check out the y-axis of the camera/ rig. It looks like the y-axis of the gimbal is not working, the lens is not level, it is tilted up between 25-35% the entire time, that is why he flipped it over to get a the stand shot. Is there an issue with the y-axis 'follow mode' or does he have the y-axis locked off?

2. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people here... Lets see content shot at 24FPS on a tighter 24-35mm lens. The tokina 11-16 is great, but far from practical for normal use.

Thanks for posting this - can't wait to see what you shoot Peter!

I wasn't on that shoot, but I would assume that was the mode he chose to use (for what ever reason that might have been). As of now on the beta units we have three different modes...
I have absolutely no issues with any of the 3 axis on my rig here in Japan and have been testing them all extensively...

I know exactly what you mean - which is why I have shot ALL of my footage at 24P to see real-time the stabilisation of the gimbal.
I have so far used the 17-40 and 35-105 zooms through out their entire ranges. The deer shot bellow for example was shot at the long 105mm end of the second zoom to test the extreme of the stabilization... :reddevil:

All the shots are from below and with a lot of headroom. In the easy to walk arround mode you are always very low.....

Awesome!I am really excited to see your tests.

Are you telling us this gimbal provides smoothing motion on 105mm focal length?

Man I think I could kill it with this gimbal, love the review, in fact, it's too good of a review the trust it. Looking forward to more. Very interested, love to get this unit in my hands for some narrative work.

Patrick from AMP just posted a nice vid over in the GB thread - added to the top here as well...

Hi Peter, how is your review working out?
i'm really looking forward to it. Do you already have some raw footage to share?

David - I am hoping to be able to post some footage later today. I know many have to make a decision by the 7th with AMP...
The proper review will take some time and I do not want to keep you waiting - so I will be posting bits and pieces as they are ready in order to give you as much feedback and samples as possible before finishing up the actual full review...

Peter, thanks a lot in advance!
I'm really looking forward to every bit of footage and information from your side, this will make the decision so much easier. :-)

all the best, david
