  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI RONIN Group Buy

Some EPIC News Kids!

I just got off the phone with the lead Project Manager of the Ronin product line and he confirmed to me that it looks like this RED Ronin Group Buy will be receiving the very first production units globally!!

Props to Jarred and DJI for seizing this awesome opportunity to get the first Ronins off the line into the hands of the worlds most talented creatives flying the finest camera made. The Ronin and Dragon are just made for each other.

I'm now under NDA with DJI direct and will be able to provide you regular progress updates as they develop. Production is still targeting Q2 . . . which probably means June 30th at 11:59PM ;-)

It's cool about getting the first ones. But realistically what sort of..if any...discount are we looking at ?
 
Yeah we need some more details on this deal pretty soon - discount & shipping estimates... We all need to be able to make financially viable decisions ;-)

With that being said - Rock on Zeb! You're doing a terrific amount of work for all of us and it's much appreciated.

Easy: bank $5K for an early July delivery ;-)

This $1M GB took everyone by surprise and from what I gather DJI is moving very carefully to make sure that their entry into Hollywood is a huge success. They are currently setting up sales and support systems that will provide a Movie Industry level of performance. I now have a direct line into DJI so can provide you the details when they become facts. DJI is not a hype company - they are owned by an Engineer so they communicate as such.

What you saw at NAB and on my video was a "90% prototype". They are currently chasing down that last 10% and stress / enviro testing the shit out of the thing to make this the best product when it is delivered.

Zeb, do you have any info on the most practical power layout for the Ronin?
 
DJI is aggressively pricing this unit out of the gate to the masses for sure, but I'm lead to believe the normal $5K price tag DOES NOT include the thumb control, custom case, multiple batteries/ charger, RC control, custom Red Epic cables, in essence; a full on ready to shoot package.

I know you're not a big fan of the way they have done business, but the BeSteady 4 group buy was priced lower than this unit and group buy members ONLY will be receiving the first 80 or 90 custom Red anodized gimbals as well... but what makes it a truly spectacular GB is that it includes EVERYTHING under the fookin sun (thumb control, multiple batteries, custom Reduser case, red epic cables, RC remote, the list goes on..)

Yes, those guys are late with delivery and communication has not been good by any means...but just looking at everything as a potential customer and seeing what was accomplished with that group buy less than half this size, I would say a $1M Group Buy that translates to an early delivery ONLY would be a HUGE let down. Not saying that's the final decision or anything, just think that a group buy of this magnitude should reach for the sun and the stars. Give them hell (in a good way) with your demands ;)

Just wanted to let you know, I am completely with you and understand where your coming from in regards to a complete set up. That is what I would want for myself, and is what I am pulling to get for all of you guys. Zeb and I are in contact with DJI Direct trying to finalize the details and such. One of the topics I have communicated to them is in regards to a complete system that comes with ALL accessories and extra batteries. I was informed that this is pretty much a Daily topic over at DJI. The other main topic is the distribution and allocation of the first units. I am trying to confirm how and in what way DJI is going to support Aerial Media Pros so I can deliver the proper quantity of Group Buy orders in a timely manner. They are seriously working on this trying to come up with a real nice solution. They are approaching it carefully as they want to be sure that we can all execute this perfectly and efficiently. Ill post up as soon as I hear something from my side. Thanks for your patience and support guys.

I agree to what Adam says. being an overseas buyer, I would like to receive EVRYTHING I need to set it up and not find I am missing this and that to make it work.

I was waiting for an official announcement a deal was made for a specific discount or something, maybe I didn't read all the posts in this thread

I thought it would be less somehow ("Price will be less than $5K")
 
Guys we are still at 10,000'. All we care about now and need to know is that we have a great parachute on our back and there is soft grassy land below us. As we get closer to landing then we will need to know more.

1. No money is being accepted now.
2. If you have posted "Interested" you are on the list.
3. I am working directly with DJI to make sure all of your questions and concerns are addressed.
4. My single mission is to get RED Users the very best deal on a fully developed product, that is a complete kit, and ready for life in high profile productions and having everyone win

Follow my posts for the most current information. DJI is using me to be their single voice for updates and info on this thread.
 
Great to here Patrick and Zeb ;)

What I like without a doubt better about the Ronin and Letus over say the BeSteady is that it is made and supported 100% right here in the USA, (like RED) which makes it so much easier to get support, etc. But with DJI's size I'm sure they are great for supporting the rest of the world too
