DJI RONIN Group Buy

Working on that. Personally I like to seeing non-factory supplied footage. Raw and amateur shot . . .

True..but this footage is just grabbed so quickly...it's hard to judge..seems rushed. Can imagine they had hard time filming around hotels with that gimbal cause
they know you're not a tourist sightseeing.

Wondering if AMP Aerial Media Pros can perphaps offer a % off coupon on a future copter purchase for people who are in Ronin group buy ?

ha I can't get one frame of gopro footage to look as good as any frame of their gopro footage!

Rub $1M on a production using a $400 camera and it might get better ;-)

It looks like there are four gimbals that are going too lead this space in 2014: the MōVI, The BeSteady Four, the H14 and the Ronin. I'm speculating that any one of these gimbals will be capable of getting identical results in the right hands, and amateurish results in the wrong hands. So now it's all about which gimbal we want to get our hands on, and when we can get our hands on them.

Tru that!

Would be interesting to do a spreadsheet analysis of all four. Metrics (not in priority order):
1. Company market / actual field experience with DSLR+ class gimbals measured in years
2. Weight limit and performance with RED Epic class payload
3. Company strength measured in capitalization, engineering and support workforce
4. Price
5. Availability
6. Distribution channel / Support model / Training
7. Warranty and Technical support
8. Ease of use / speed on set
9. Reliability, durability and tolerance of interference from power cables, moron operators etc
10. Related and integrated peripheral products such as video downlink
11. Gimbal weight
12. Battery run-time
13. Ergonomics / cool features
14. Ease of modification and customization
15. 3rd party support
16. You get the drift . . .

Betchu a buck the Ronin comes out on top ;-)

Footage looks pretty good... can't wait to get this and throw the redrock wireless follow focus on it. No more blurry glidecam shots in lowlight!

how much?

I think we should include this list in a first post and keep it updated.

P.S.: I sure hope that GB batch is going to be more than a 100 units :)

Interested and curious on the price effected by the shear number in the group buy for sure.

WOW!! . . . Thank you Demetri!! I felt we were around 100 but to be over 130 is freakin awesome!!

Bit of a qualifier on his list: I have received several RU PM's, emails and various messages from folks who wish to remain off the RU public list or who are not registered RU's yet but are very interested. Example: I'm not on the list ;-)

My video is in the Top 5 on search results for "DJI Ronin" in Google, YouTube and Vimeo so this is not just an internal RU affair. This is great since it has brought exposure / new blood to RU and buzz to RED in general while it increases our buying power with the fine gents @DJI.

The way this will work is: once I get the deal finalize (soon) I will PM each of you in the order you have listed interest (starting with registered RU's of course) with a store link. I will post here maybe 12 hours of warning before the PM goes out and the store opens up for business since this in a global event and I want to be fair to those down under and over. Those who have contacted me outside of RU will be notified after you guys.

My current thinking on time of day for the PM is 4:00AM Hollywood Standard Time (HST) since that gets 90% of you the PM before or during the business day. It will take over an hour to do the 130+ PM's assuming nothing crashes. Hopefully the AMP store is up for the task of this level of purchase traffic.

So . . . Demetri's list is roughly the list of initial notification. From there it's going to be about who pulls the trigger first etc. Doing a "Who took the Ronin GB" post will most most likely create an incomplete list since there are those that will want to remain anonymous or don't post on RU.

I hope to sell 5-10 Carbon Dragons and Epics as part of this promotion as well . . . potentially making this a $1M Group Buy.

The "Ultimate Who Gets It First List" will be determined by:
1. Time stamp on paid for order from AMP
2. Those who purchase the Carbon Dragon or Epic Bundle get to be first in line. We are in RED's house here so those who throw down for a CD get cutsies
3. We will then be at the mercy of DJI fulfillment . . . but having over $600K in paid for pre-orders from Industry Leading Market Makers should help focus their thoughts

Question becomes "How can we pay for something when DJI hasn't even determined a final price?". They have publicly stated "it's going to be less than $5K" so charging $5K then refunding the difference when it becomes official seems like the proactive way to approach this. I'm not the storekeeper here so will defer to Patrick on this logistical point.

I hope to have the final details worked out with Jarred and Patrick in the very near future.

Keep an eye on this thread over the next several days . . .

Good Times!!

Many thanks for your efforts, Zeb. As asked before, can there be a solution for European customers to get the gimbal shipped via DJI Europe for example? Many thanks for your help.

You kidding?? . . . I LOVE EUROPE!! I'll try my best to make it work the best for you guys
