  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dino...

this is not the pillow fight by any means...just a very very own and dirty test to make sure it works...i tried to get someone else to be the talent, but one else knew how to juggle, i guess i do not either.

so, as soon as i received the camera i travel about a mile up the street to my good friends, light iron digital...

i shot a very down and dirty 5k 2.40:1 test of 120fps...i am not a very good juggler, particularly of starbust candies ( they are so small)..

i barely graded this and there was just the lights that are in the facility...

shot with old red 18/50 at t3...120fps, shutter at 1/120 hand held by pete cioni, the business side of the cioni brothers.

enjoy

2.40:1 Very cool Dino! Thanks! ...what ISO?

lol, awesome! Dino!! So happy for you my friend.

So what happens to Red #31mx? Do you think clients will want both mx31 and epicm31 together? Or will the Red#31mx be the backup camera for on set safety?

every job will be different

just outside making some family shots with the baby crawling on the grass...the poor thing hasnt been shot at all in 4k, i have been waiting to shoot him in 5k...he is 9 months old...well today he got his first shots at 5k 2.40:1 at 120 fps...ill post later when they are all napping..

haha, i like how you're wearing the same outfit as when you picked it up, but now you're hat is turned around.

we shot the juggling about 20 minutes after i took delivery; and jarred didn't want me to wear the hat, it created a shadow on my face with the lighting he had thrown together....so we compromised...

hahaha. so why #87? is that just what you got, or did you pick that number for a certain reason?

I'm going to guess that that cameras 9 through 86 were filling up all the requirements of the movies Jim mentioned earlier are filmming in Epic and Epic 3D. For someone like ridley scott - he likes to shoot multicameras - even 8 or so, double that... now multiply that by productions in production. :)

luck of the draw, and i'd bet mark is right...

Now im assuming that since gibby got M #8 and Dino got # M #87 it its safe to say that
the gap has been filled with happy unannounced Costumers!!! Correct me if im wrong!
And if it is so!! then its also safe to say that Epic M program is also about to come to an end! and Last but not least! That since this week Jim and Jarred have been in the Quiet note, and quoting Jim's "We are in the woods preparing for a coup... :-)" that the Epic X Distribution is about to get started!!!! AGREE?

i dont think it is a secret that spiderman and hobbit are happening and perhaps some more features, jim mentioned them in a post..so i think that is where these "other" numbered cameras are going..which, personally, i am fine with since in the end it helps build credibility for us.

Haha...if you are going to lose a camera number, might as well lose it to PJ.

Well, to be fair Dino, until you said what you said we had no real indication of the scale of the Epic M production as the only S/Ns known were 6-8. It now is pretty clear that Jim's original prediction of 50-100 Ms is happening which bodes well for Epic-X meeting it's start date. Very good news for "the rest of us."

here is a very quick down and very dirty iPhone4 (verizon) video of EPIC#00087 powering up, shooting 24 fps rc 3:1 at 180 degree shutter, at 5k 2.40:1 , then switching to 120 fps rc 12:1 180 degree shutter, shooting, then back to 24 fps rc 3:1 180 degree shutter, shooting and then powering off...all within the time it typically takes to powerup my red#0031...well maybe the video is about 40 seconds longer than powering up r1...but i actually could have done this whole thing in about 25 seconds...if i didnt have to explain everything and also have to change shutter angles.

enjoy

Thank you for the quick video. What is the top plate you have on your EPIC?

so jarred sent me a note last week that i would be getting the camera on friday...(where i was when i got that message is a whole story that i will not go into now).

i worked up until that day, but on that day i went to Element technica on the way to red and picked up a couple of things to make my camera "ready to rent"

the top plate is from the atom or neutron 3d rigs that ET makes...it is not cheap, i think i paid 750 bucks for it... it fits perfectly on the +13 and has 3/8's and 1/4 20 holes all over it...only problem is it locks in the redmote, which is fine for now, they said they are modifying it. but i could not wait.

then there is bottom plate that allows me to use my et 15mm and 19mm arri BP and it also has tapped out holes for mini 15mm rods (ala dslr rigs)..

for my work, i need to be able to interface with all of the gear at the rental houses. some day ill tell you all about a job i did in late november with a couple of epics where i had to severally modify things to make them work...difference of being on a low budget job versus spiderman...i had no prep, no help and i was in a foreign country with ac's that barely spoke english...so this time i wanted to be prepared.

Verizon iPhone 4 shooting a Red Epic camera, technology is a beautiful thing. Thanks for the vid Dino and can't wait to see what you do with the camera ....

got the iphone on the monday, epic on friday...what a week...won't be able to beat that probably ever...
