  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dino EPIC #00087 & CAMTEC 5K FF LENS CHART

The 16mm Master Prime seems to cover the Epic well, though it vignettes on a Canon 1D Mark 4.

The 16mm Ultra Prime is one of the worser Ultra Primes. I guess 14mm, 12mm and 10mm has the similar problem.

The recording 5K FF area on EPIC is less then 30 x 15 mm (2:1)

5120x2700 should be 28.35 x 15 mm (1.89) or probably less...

Image circles:

EPIC 5K FF
32 mm

Canon 1D Mark 4
33.53 mm

Huumm, I guess this is were I say I am not good at math?? And that my math is wrong... ;)

Actually I found an other measurement on the Epic descrption page Lens Coverage is 27.7mm (h) x 14.6mm (v) x 31.4 mm (d),
but I guess since I never cared for this kind of math, now I am really confused he he.

I know there was some were a specific chart, with Sensor size, image circle and measurements of each recoding mode and relative image size,
actually would come i handy now to add to the IODcal app for 3D... ;)

That should be more accurate comparing to my numbers... My calculations were based on 15mm vertical dimension.

Obviously, EPIC doesn't use the whole vertical area. It's really not such a big thing.

Yeah the active pixel area on the Canon 1D4 seems to be slightly more than the Epic M. The 16mm MP vignettes slightly on the 1D4, but not on the Epic.

Discovered today that the Panavision Frazier lens system will not cover 5K 1.85:1 without serious vignetting issues. Off to Keslow tomorrow to check on the Cine Magic Revolution system -
supposedly good from 20mm up using the mini-PL objective lenses.

As wides are the usual suspects for vignetting/shading - has anyone tried the Cooke Speed Panchros (the older ones) on an Epic-M?
Specifically the 18mm and the 25mm?

Tom, I just did a quick test for you with my Ultra Prime 16mm. It's not your imagination.

I don't understand... From the chart Dino sent It seems that all Ultraprimes are good on Epic 5K FF... Up to the 8R...
If there is a problem with the 16mm I don't see a 12mm working...
If somebody did some test on the wider end of Ultraprimes...
Good info...
Thanks.
Antoine

Ultra Prime 16mm covers 5K FF but as You can see it has illumination falloff problem.

Thanks Guys!
Not a good news to shoot FF! I guess it's a problem with a lot of lenses...

@Alexander, thanks, if it's ok with 14mm and 16mm in 5K 16/9, that's good! No vignette at all??

@Vasili thank you, I'll check those lenses. I've heard the price/performance is incredible...

Best regards.
Antoine

Phillip, Not that I don't believe you, but I have to ask since you shot a wall and not a chart, did you light the wall evenly? I mean to me it looks like good ole' fashioned vignette, but since you and Dino are at odds as to whether or not the UltraPrime 16mm covers the full sensor, I have to ask.

Anyway, I hope we can figure this little discrepancy out.

The wall was lit evenly.

Has anyone tried the 16mm Standard Speed Zeiss T2.1? I'm considering buying that lens at the moment to complete my set but would definitely think twice if it didn't cover 5k.

has anyone tested the new fujinon pl mount zooms? ie the 18-85 t2, 24-180 t2.6, 14.5-45 t2 and the 45-400
