Indeed, good report. Seems like it would make more sense for them to do a PC version though, given the slot limitations of Mac Pros and graphics limitations of OSX...

All is left is "best in class" in skill and ability to video and sound edit and color grade and you all set. Do I hear "best in class" compositing skill? They don't sell that at cutdown rate too now, do they?![]()
I think what's scarier is the fact that Blackmagic has never had any Linux products and has never shown any inclination to support the Linux OS. They have always been a Mac-centric, Windows-second company. I think the jury is still very much out as to whether the Linux product is a long term commitment, or an attempt to test the viability of that market for what has now become a "low end" - at least in terms of price - product, while still trying to retain the high end client base that already has DaVinci products.
Tim,
I can see how this would bum you out. You are invested in a Quantel Pablo and I'm sure you can only imagine the writing on the wall. I would be bummed out too if I had a Scratch, Pablo or Baselight (new 95k system released at NAB) system...
Well, I'm not invested in anything and I feel exactly the same way that Tim does.
Actually we have being doing 4.5K on our BL1.
I bought a 130K$ Smoke Advanced Linux about two years ago. I can tell you it was very difficult to accept a 20K$ machine on mac from autodesk. The smoke advanced is a wonderfull machine, far from the mac version on many points (batch and most of all stability). Anyway, it's really hard for everyday's HD clients to understand the differences beetween the two systems.
