  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DaVinci

Well at least we know with RED that they were already crazy from the git go... what is especially troubling is when a stable conservative company then goes mad.
Since when Blackmagic is a conservative company? Disruptive pricing and technology is in their DNA...

Yes

"DaVinci Resolve for the Mac is the world’s most advanced color correction as a software only solution compatible with high performance GPU cards and off the shelf control panels such as the Tangent Wave™."

What's really scary is when a high priced software from a conservative elitist company is then bought out by another company with the intention of selling at disruptive prices.

:-)

Nice Tango dance move Andrea. I see you are swift on your feet :)

Awesome... What about JL Cooper Eclipse compatibility? Of course I have the JL Cooper.. I love it, don't get me wrong. But more and more I'm thinking I should have bought a Tangent Wave for price, portability and compatibility...

Full system specs have not been released, but it would not be unreasonable that a high caliber control surface such as the JL Cooper Eclipse would be supported also. You may want to reach out to the distributors mention below if you have a serious interest.

Good luck, let us know.

so what are the limits?

Software is IDENTICAL across all versions.

Limit is that it might not be realtime if you want to do heavy stuff.

If you want to do heavy rendering, buy the Linux version, which allows for multiple GPUs, render farms, etc.

If you want their gigantic console, you have to buy it.

Personally I am delighted because suddenly I can have Avid, DaVinci and Pro Tools... the BEST IN CLASS TOOLS... for a similar price to Final Cut Studio or Adobe Master Collection!

no heavy rendering needed, some secondaries, some tweaking here and there, a lil scaling/cropping, masking, thats it,

great times, i wish davinci would be on PC too.

man bruce, this is so exciting!

All is left is "best in class" in skill and ability to video and sound edit and color grade and you all set. Do I hear "best in class" compositing skill? They don't sell that at cutdown rate too now, do they?:-)

That's great! So the software only solution will allow you to grade RED, 2K and 4K files, just no real time grading like the Linux version...?

I'll be at NAB on wednesday, so I'll definitely be taking a trip to Blackmagic to find out and JL Cooper as well. I REALLY hope I can use my Eclipse with DaVinci otherwise I'll have to sell it and get a Wave...

Yes. Go to http://www.blackmagic-design.com/davinci/resolve/

and click "HOW TO BUY":

Here's what it says for $999 version:

"You get the a full copy of DaVinci Resolve with no features disabled, so you get a full system, with single GPU performance."

The power of the Linux version is having up to 16 GPUs, infiniband network rendering, etc.

They WANT you to do 4K stuff etc in the $999 version, so you say "wow, this is awesome but I sure wish I could do this a little faster - how much was that Linux version again?"

Yep, we all asked for it. Finally, someone did it.

Best way we can support this is by sending them our dollars as soon as possible - which I intend to do pronto!

Yeaaaahhh Bruce,

I'll do it the same in a day or two, actually when it is available.

They definitely have mine... this is a no brainer. I'll have to take "Scratch coming soon" off my sig and replace it with "Davinci coming soon".
