  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DaVinci Resolve Keyboard - Cheapest control surface

GREAT news! Do I have to "dedicate it" or can I continue to use it as my normal mouse, and just spin the wheel when I am using your tool?

I can make a specified script that is activated only when you're pressing a specific key in a way that you can continue to use as a scroll wheel when you need it as a scroll wheel ;)

That's awesome - so just to be clear: 1) I can use it with x-keys http://www.piengineering.com/xkeys/xk24.php XKey is NOT a generic keyboard, it is more like a game controller type thing. It comes with its own version of controller mate
2) I can use my scroll wheel to control values as wanted. 3) This will not require advanced programming skills on my part.

1) Yes, you can use the x-keys.
2) Yes, you can use the scroll wheel to control the values
3) Exactly, I'll make it for you.

And one last question... (Which I ask also for other users here, I would imagine, like the other questions...) I am also thinking of using a Genovation keyboard. It reads as a standard keyboard (it has no drivers). Will that conflict with my other keyboard in Mac, or does Mac see additional keyboards differently than a PC?)

Can I program a modifier key to an X-Keys (like I press the bottom right key, and the top-left one together, and it calls a different function than pressing just the one key by itself?)

Thank you for your quick replies. I will become a customer this week.

It isn't a problem if you're using other keyboard, you'll config only the one that you need, others will operate normally.

Yes and no, you can map "my modifier keys" on some keys on your xkey keyboard.
Let me explain, you can't have custom shortcuts like "button 1 = next version", "button 15+button1 = previous version."
You should keep the functions printed on the stickers. So maybe you need to assign 3 or 4 keys to modifiers and then the others to the basic functions, in a way that pressing a specific modifier you can use the specific "b-function" written in the script (that can't be changed).

Hope that i've explained :S

Understood, but if I have enough keys (like if I buy 54 key XKeys version) can I skip modifiers altogether (and have only direct keys?) I have firmly decided to buy your product, but want to buy the best choice of keypad.

How many function keys would I need in all (if I wanted them all to be direct?)

But they could all be direct (whatever number I have?)
No, you still need the modifiers. Some features are built in the same key (with and without pressing the modified key) within the script, so you can't separate them and assign them to two different keys.
For example, a key will select the next clip, using the modifier with this key will move the cursor to the last frame of that clip. You can't divide them.
I've built the layout for a 100/110 keys keyboard and i'm allowing you to use other keyboards but leaving the script structure intact :)

Makes sense Rosario but... I think you should think about a version for those of us who have a control surface, but want more button functions. We would not need "next clip" (it's right there on the control surface) but we would need "last frame", and we would prefer it to work without a modifier (although this will likely work as I could program the modifier+key itself as a macro with a keyboard like Genovation or X-keys.)

Here is a function suggestion that would be mighty handy (maybe they are there already) For qualifiers: hue On/Off Sat On/Off Value On/Off (simple toggles without changing low/high/soft values) - its' great to check the contribution of each vector when qualifying.

I'll integrate the switches for the qualifiers in the next version, but will be integrated with a modifier key because all the keys on the standard keyboard are used.

But I found now a way to integrate the modifiers pressing just one key, without many nights of coding.
Obviously you will have a
Thanks for the suggestions ;)

Rosario, i sent you a private message, and you never responded. Did you get it?

can you explaine me a few questions...
if i buy it I will get, some thing to stick on the key to mi keyboard. and... what else... and script? how do I install it?
Do I need to buy the ControllerMate? or that is just to built the script that you will send?
I will run it on mi MBPr. I will buy an external keyboard, I can use the two keyboard? (the external and the laptop one) so y can just use a normal one to write or those things?.

thanks
