Jake, you´re very patient… I´m still on 11 and on an old MP, just because I didn´t dare to upgrade OS, Resolve and Desktop Video during an unfinished job. Now I would have the time to do it but reading about stability issues in 12 I´m not sure anymore. Did your major issues start with V12, as my Resolve 11 runs fairly good.
Hi Ulf.
Yes, until V12 came on the scene I could always rely on Resolve to do a glitch and crash free render, as well as to consolidate and trim R3Ds without a crash. I finally found the latest 12.3.2 to be semi stable, but I still can't consolidate a movie without Resolve stopping in the middle of copying. My client in NY still reports about one in three attempts to render, that end in crashes. When I installed 12.3.1 and tried to render, Resolve would immediately crash. Installing 12.3.2 did help and I was finally able to render.
So, if you still happy with 11 and you don't require new features in V12, just stay put. Hopefully 12.5 will be better. For one, BM is making an attempt to replace OFX plugins, like Sapphire with their own versions, that don't use OFX. Also, a little known nugget, that I found in 12.5 notes. Apparently now you will be able to kick off the Prores render from Windows, as long as the rendering computer could render Prores. So, if I understand it correctly, you could conceivably do a grade on Windows Resolve and render Prores on a networked Mac or Linux Resolve. Luckily, courtesy BM, I just won a Linux dongle at the colorist mixer in Las Vegas
