  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Davinci Resolve 12.5? NAB2016

ok well .. I have to try these days.
I just have to figure out if this feature still apply for database sharing and discs.
Or are you saying that work without it?
I assume this an extension of a standard Remote rendering feature, which does require shared database and disk paths. I imagine, once Resolve on Windows detects Prores capable computer, Prores render then shows up as one of the options? I don't have a second Mac/Windows dongle, but I just got Linux dongle, so I may try to set up a networked Linux Resolve to try it.

... I use Resolve since 12 as my only NLE, Premiere is gathering dust since than.
Haven't had any mayor trouble, but my machine is up to the specs (besides still running Win7) .

I do 1 hour timelines without any hickups. Also never saw render glitches like the Mac guys. ... Happy camper, can't complain. ...

My experience as well. I regularly do 1 - 1.5 hour timelines. I only use Premiere if I need a "Premiere-specific" plug-in and to burn blu rays via Encore.

Jake you funny. Like a dog with a bone

I'm liking DVR with the growing NLE functionality. All in one suits me just fine. Fuck round trips

I can not ..
there is' something strange ... the problem I think is the path .. windows uses c: / D: while OSX use / Volumes.

then the non-starting system .....
For the database is not a problem, while discs do not know how to do, it does not match and therefore not find the files.

mmmmmmmm

Look at page 117 of the manual.

Shared media path mapping support for Mac, Linux and Windows makes it easier for multi-system shops to share Resolve projects among different platforms that use different le path conventions.

PROJECT SETTINGS AND PREFERENCES
To add a mapped mount string:
1. Open the Media Storage panel of the Resolve Preferences window.
2. Add the volume you want to map to the Scratch Disks list.
3. Double-click the Mapped Mount column of the drive you added to edit it.
4. Enter the alternate le path you want that volume to have. For example, if you’re on a Windows workstation and you want to access a Linux volume, type the Linux le path into the Mapped Mount column.

mmm double clic on the right ;)!!

ok the way is enable sharing database MAC/WIN, setup in Mac is easy , add ip x.x.x.x/24 on the files pg_hba.conf and now win and mac connect perfect ... this in only mode work remote render.
Open terminal and start resolve -rr ..
Open DAvinci in windows ,connect to new database , make progect and go to delivery... But PRORES not exist in Quicktime code :( but remote render work fine in any codec but not in prores mmmmmmm....

now you need to know if there is something particular about how to turn this codec ProRes on windows !!!

ok JACK yehaaaaaaaa

FOund the menu for select codec remote ;

ALL PRORES in WINDOWS WOWOWOW

That's brilliant!
Thanks for sharing your finding Luigivaltulini . I'm now seriously considering moving my Resolve to Windows. Lack of Prores was a stumbling block for me, but no longer. That's really great news:thumbup1:
Although I'm not ready to move to 12.5 quite yet and so I'm curios, if both Resolves must be the same version? Or can I keep my Mac Resolve 12.3.2 and upgrade my Windows to 12.5?

I think Resolve allows you to connect and manage all current/archived databases via the Database Manager. V12.xx should be compatible. Older database/versions have to restored to the active version number. The one caveat is a locally shared database will force Resolve to see only local media. A SANS environment is the best practice for this senario.

I will need to try it to see, if I could use different versions for remote render.
SAN environment is definitely better, but not absolutely necessary. Resolve can do various platforms paths translations, as Luigivaltulini already verified with Mac/Windows environment.

If I interpret the 12.5 manual correctly (pages 1133-1135), everything has to be on the exact same version. I agree, the idea of basically having a render farm would be a great idea. My suspicion though is that you can't just hand off the entire job to a remote computer. The manual implies that both computers are up and involved with the render the entire time. I was hoping for "push the button and render in the background," which is not going to happen.

In fairness to Resolve, background rendering in other software is fairly torturous, too. On Baselight, the entire system would grind almost to a halt and you'd get maybe 8fps out of a Baselight 4 if you were even rendering HD. Impossible with 4K. It would work fine if you could close out that project and then re-open it remotely and do the render that way, assuming you had a new project you could move on to on the original system.

I agree with Jake that making the program stable is job #1. But I've had no real problems with clients in the room on v12. I think on the last 10-day supervised job I did, we had maybe 3 crashes total (plus a hardware issue where the panel went stupid for about 10 minutes). Out of 100 hours, I don't think we had even 2 hours of downtime, at most. Maybe an hour.

12.5 is a Beta and I'm reluctant to use it on any billable work just yet. But the features are very tempting, and I can see there's a lot of thought and good design in it.

I'm trying some combinations ...
The great thing is that if you send the MAC to render the entire project timeline, for ProRes, you can still make the grade on the Windows PC. The machines work separately, this implies a considerable saving of time wowow this is fantastic.:drool5:

Yes, that is my understanding. Windows computer is just used to initiate the render, but once it is handed off to a Mac for rendering, Windows computer is free again to be used for grading. This is another great benefit to being able to render on a second machine.

I wish they had a simple anamorphic de-squeeze option rather than having to use the sizing tab... A 2x or 1.33x desqueeze would be cool

They do. You need to do it in "clip attributes". Just select anamorphic there and you're good to go.

DUH, I'm an idiot. Thanks Jake! I'm a bit rusty in Resolve since it has been so unstable. Finally jumped back on for the 12.5 Beta. So far, much better stability than 12.

ehehhe now Old Macpro is a gold for remote render ;)

Thats why we still hang onto a half dozen of the 2012s :)

:)

Hey JAck...
Database is not compatible, version in windows 12.5 beta not working with 12.3.2/1 on MAc, different database give me a error to connect.
But if you have same release is possible to share database from Windows to MAc or if you prefer MAc to Windows.
