  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DaVinci Resolve 10

The Starwipe is timeless.....only............... outclassed by the heart wipe ...hopefully a pallet of wipes will be included in 10.

It hasn't happen so far, but to be fair, contrast and pivot had been finally mapped out to all panels and for the first time ever, today, I had been told, that log control (offsets) mapping may actually happen too...

Well that is a start.

Would be a pleasant surprise for the rest but I'm not holding my breath.

HA, now it's a big problem for me to decide to buy or not to buy a AVID MC, 999$, for the S3D editing, but will turn to be not quite useful after resolve 10 released which I can get the free upgrade...

The editing portion of Resolve is to accommodate users wishing to finish in Resolve. Hence the high level finishing tools, like OFX, motion flow, temporal Noise Reduction! etc. I don't think BM intent is to replace a standard NLE used in a traditional editing.

I agree 100%. I don't think Resolve can replace Avid, FCP etc yet and I don't think this is what it's intended to either.

I just checked the esyDCP price, 4,165 pound, one of the most expensive DCP software... will the plugin be a good price?

Hopefully someone else steps up with a more affordable plugin. I'm also really hoping .RED finishing will be possible in Resolve.

As I understand, it works hand in hand with EasyDCP if it is installed on your system, but even if that is not installed, it will generate DCP compliant JPEG2000 files, which can be used in other DCP authoring software. So you could use them in e.g. OpenDCP if you want.

I have used OpenDCP to create a 4K DCP from R3Ds, and had to go via 4K DPXs from REDCINE-X which added a huge amount of time and disk space requirement. I would have been very glad that day of the ability to go straight from R3D to JPEG2000 in Resolve. Would of course have needed the full version of Resolve to do 4K.

Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS and Blackmagic Design just announced their cooperation to enhance the post production software DaVinci Resolve at the NAB Show in Las Vegas. Plug-ins for the generation and play-out of digital cinema packages (DCP) – well-known from the easyDCP software developed by Fraunhofer scientists – will be available for the next release of DaVinci Resolve 10. Blackmagic Design and Fraunhofer IIS will be presenting the solution on NAB at the Fraunhofer Alliance Digital Cinema booth, Center Hall (Bavarian Pavilion) C7843, and at Blackmagic Design, South Hall SL218.

LAS VEGAS *– April 8, 2013 – Blackmagic Design, a world leader in digital TV and film technology, broadens its range of supported formats in the area creative video technology for professional TV and motion picture production by integrating the Fraunhofer IIS easyDCP software. With the DCP functions for the generation, play-out and encryption of digital cinema packages, post production houses can shortcut cumbersome procedures and create digital cinema packages instantly with DaVinci Resolve. Thanks to the KDM (key delivery message) generator of the Fraunhofer software even sensitive data for dailies can be created and encrypted so they can be activated for specific players and for predetermined play-out periods. In addition to saving time, these safety measures are of great advantage in the exchange process between production and post production.

“The integration of our easyDCP software allows DaVinci Resolve 10 to use DCPs as direct input format for post production and as alternative exchange format with highest image quality,” explains Heiko Sparenberg, group manager Digital Cinema at Fraunhofer IIS. “We are very excited to be able to offer the integration with easyDCP so DaVinci Resolve 10 customers can generate secure DCPs throughout the production and post pipeline all the way to final project delivery”, said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. “Because DaVinci Resolve 10 offers processing from the camera RAW file directly to the Digital Cinema Package files in the highest quality 32 bit float, there is simply no better quality possible for a cinema release master.”

A demo version of the plugin will be available for the upcoming version of DaVinci Resolve 10. After the NAB Show the full version of the easyDCP plug-in for the Blackmagic software will be available for licensing via Richtwerk GmbH. Blackmagic Design and Fraunhofer IIS will be presenting the solution at the Fraunhofer Alliance Digital Cinema booth, Center Hall (Bavarian Pavilion) C7843, and at Blackmagic Design, South Hall SL218.

Looks like Resolve can directly create the package with EasyDCP plug-in.

EasyDCP may be a good software, but their prices are out-of-touch with current competitors.

Agreed. After all its just another delivery format in this respect and the functionality is needed but most DCP software does appear to be disproportionately expensive, given we can buy Resolve software for $995 USD or an HD camera for $995 too. But making a DCP is more of a QA process which is where most of the effort goes. Im guessing all of the encryption options are available in Easy DCP.

I was told better organized and more complete mapping on the tangent element.
Also of note to redusers, separate quality setting for debayer for still and playback. That is huge.

Not yet... I remember last year when they said they had no interest in creating an S35 professional camera. Or when they said they wouldn't dramatically lower the prices on Resolve, LOL! Not that i'm complaining. Just saying ;).

When will this be available for download? Anyone know?

So, you're a clairvoyant now? I also imagine, if one to ask BM if they planning to built a space station, they will deny it too. Just saying...

I dunno, I have always loved them as a company. Super honest, super friendly. I mentioned it on another post but I originally was interested in their camera after last year's NAB and then I demoed it in LA. They were extremely honest, never pushy... I told them I was debating their camera or the Scarlet and they never once slammed RED or tried to say theirs was better, which I liked. They had tremendous respect for RED and they were honest in what the BMCC is as well as its limitations, like the jellowcam and internal battery.

Also, with Resolve, I visited them this year at NAB... again, awesome company... I was nosing around for an "NAB Coupon" on Resolve and the guy was like, "Um, it's free." I said, "Yes, the demo version." He said, "Why would you want to pay $1,000 when it's 95% of the same program... unless you need 3D (and two other things)." I was like, really? But to the point... 'dramatically lower the price on Resolve'... can't beat free!!! What other company out there has a fully-functional product for FREE?

I just get a little defensive about them because, although I didn't go with them, buying a RED instead, they're a really friendly and legit company.

Lightworks! Pretty much the same as Resolve, with a free "lite" version and a paid pro version.
