Just contemplating...

If you are looking at value in a camera... look to yourself.

Everything will get better and cheaper as time rolls on. It is up to you to make the most of this... especially when it comes to cameras.

Cameras are investments... an investment in you. Cameras alone do not hold any special value unless you plan on holding them new in a box for 50 years.

Whatever you buy... cameras, computers or almost anything electronic will dramatically improve and get cheaper over time. That is a given. Mark this down as an irrevocable law in heaven.

RED is in the same boat as everyone else. We can make it better and make it for less given some time. How can we assure that our customers don't get screwed? Most of this is up to you. You need to use your pro equipment and expect that it will be obsolete the minute you buy it. Make it work. Or lose money. It can make you a living or sit on your shelf and devalue. Your call.

You need to put your investment in any camera system to work. Or you will lose money. That is a fact. Read this twice. Or more...

Obsolescence Obsolete. We do give you a chance. We upgrade. We allow trade-ins. We do everything possible to help you out. But in the end... you will lose if you don't put your equipment to work. These are the cold, hard facts.

Expect more capability for less money as time goes on. Think carefully before you buy anything. As soon as you receive it... use it.

Get ready for the future. It is full of more for less.

We take pride in telling you the truth. It is your job to accept it. Or not.

Rock on! Looking forward to trading my scarlet which i used out of box on many fun projects for a new epic to use on many more!

It seems from the price thread that most people commenting understand what you are saying. Just sayin'.

Just making sure... :-)

Heh heh... but it is only 8:45pm!

Any early pricing hints Jim?

Not really. We have paid off the NRE, have figured out how to make EPICs for less. Everything we do is for our customers. I guess I would bet on us to do the very best we can to put cameras in the hands of as many as possible.

Not much more complicated than that.

Very well said.

I only ask you be reasonable. I think many in my camp feel the same way.

Yup. Never buy anything you can't afford. Use it, abuse it, and hopefully you learned something along the way. You can't put a price on experience. I'm hungry for more... for less. Let the games begin!

Jim, If I may adopt my Patrick Jayne persona, I think cameras are slowly becoming less important to RDC. It is becoming apparent by the mellow tone of your posts that you are sitting on the prototype(s) of the next phase of products that you know are where the real advancements will occur. Am I getting warm?

As long as the company keeps its excellent support philosophy, costumer care, Obsolescence Obsolete, etc, I'm all go. The more Epivs out there means more 4K, better Epic 3rd Party support, better support gear, etc. Keep the quality at the same level, and I'm in the "Red" camp forever. My experience with Sony or other brands in nowhere compares to my experience with RED. This is part of your main asset, Jim. That and your constant push for innovation and passion. Like I said in the other thread- Keep going forward, keep pushing!

as someone's whose shot RED on many shoots, been in love with the idea of the Red One since late in film school, and nowjust starting my own production co that is readying shorts and features to shoot in the next 6 months... this news has been the best. regardless of how much the price is dropping (which i could care less about), i'm about to join the RED family and very much plan for my work to be featured on the main site someday very soon (with all my other idols). you guys are the fucking best.

I think it is safe to assume that RED will continue lead the professional camera industry. Everything I have seen from the "others" is a reaction, not vision. We are working on things that defy description. They are a bit away from being realized to our customers... but coming.

The punchline is that people need to buy what they can use, use it and make money. Produce. I am quite comfortable that EPIC is as useful a tool as it gets.
