What does "reasonable" mean? Protecting high-end à la what Sony always did ?! :beatdeadhorse5:

Time to some business-makers change...

Or as anyone already mentioned in the other thread, Kodak is not the case study I want to see a sequel :(

No. Protecting people who spent a lot of money on Red gear - not forever (like Sony), just a reasonable time to recoup their money to a reasonable degree. I'm hoping, and even, because I hold him in high regard, expecting, Jim to be reasonable and respectful toward his existing buyers. Anything else would be a total shift in attitude and character.

The Epic X has been available in large numbers as Stage 4 for less than a year. New 34 price is since last January. Less than a year is not realistic unless you are a busy rental house rather than an owner-operator.

In the Betacam days no one bought pro video cameras (few people anyway) because they lost value too quickly - you had to rent them almost every day which as a DP, with prep time, was impossible. For that reason, rentals and purchase price were VERY high. This was not good for anyone. In HDV days that was also the case, to a lesser extent.

Reading through your various posts around the forum, you seem to have a problem with "the high end" and people who make a lot of (or any) money at this. You also state that you slept in your car for a film. You also seem to be an intelligent person with a good heart.

As such I urge you to look up "poverty mentality" on Google. I guarantee this is hurting you. It's OK to be prosperous and make money in this business. There's nothing inherently noble about having no money.
LOL Rob, I've given you a good chance for a new post. Without mine, you surely wouldn't have yours now for free ;-) I guarantee this is surprising you. But I am a capitalist :P With a difference like Clark Kent, I am with the poor artists at times :D

In any case, I don't think RED has to be concerned with customers like you represent at all. I will even say more... I will praise the day these customers could be out of here or at least to cut their weight in this activity. Hope digital revolution may help to change the old status quo. Hope you understand this is nothing personal, of course. Just movies and moviemakers are my only concern in this craft. Not those who only think art as money instead :-)Many of the world's greatest directors and DPs of all time made a ton of money and were very cash-aware. Many of the world's greatest directors and DPs don't even use the word art - they call it craft.

There's only so much you can do filming in your buddy's apartment using hardware store lights - and eventually, your buddy will lose patience and not even let you use his apartment anymore. I'm not saying this your situation, but you seem to have rather pernicious counter-productive attitudes toward wealth and money, and if you read up on poverty mentality, your post is a classic example of how it comes to be and really hurts people's lives and potential for happiness. You don;t have to sleep in your car. My contracts stipulate a private room/bathroom at all times.

After a great night's sleep and shower, I'm ready to make some great craft.
You know what's the big difference between us? I partially agree with you and you don't even notice LOL

BTW, I used the words art & craft in the same post :-)

Something I will tell you... my posts are read everyday for a few lurkers every day out of reduser. And I know they will laugh with this one of yours. Did you appreciate the song I posted to you. Also the lyrics? It is from a great artist who I have the pleasure to have a project to produce with. Do you know since when? 2001 (like his music -- three decades later is still around, certain things take time ;-)

Everything feels walled off, and everything is a one-way conversation. There's no real open discussion. In this day and age, when technology is moving fast and interdependent of other technology, people learn through forums and open discussions—that's super critical moving forward.

What has Sony got to do with anything? So the difference is Red has a forum? What has that got to do with loyalty?

I don't know... Maybe I expected to be part of some superfunhappyclub when I took delivery of Leeloo Multipass, but it's felt pretty much a one-way conversation every time I've replied to a post raising the issues that need to be addressed with Scarlet. As such it seems it's a case of 'like it or lump it' now, especially now with everyone having an eye on Dragon and these upgrades/price drops... and now I just accept I can only use my camera for certain applications and still have to dig out the DSLRS for other things. But yeah, I most certainly don't feel loved or that anyone has demonstrated any particular brand of loyalty towards me for investing in their products.

As an aside, I recently sent an out of warranty Canon 5D to Canon services and they replaced the mirror, updated the focus screen, cleaned the sensor and cleaned the body all free of charge. Didn't even charge postage.

This is like some odd Werner Herzog narration...

Fair enough. Sorry if I missed something in what you were saying. My reply was more to other people than just to you. Young people should not be afraid to aks for reasonable wages (or even more, why not?) for their talent.

I'm sorry, I tried to resist the urge to comment on this statement, but I couldn't -- I vehemently disagree with that statement. The amount one is able of accomplishing in their "friend's apartment" depends principally on the person using the gear. And this is especially true given the current state of image technology.

Whatever though, if someone doesn't see that, there is nothing that anyone else can say to sway that opinion. But I have done crazier shit with a two-man crew than I have seen accomplished on full-fledged outfits -- and I'm talking about VFX integration with live action.

Again...whatever. To each his own.

Have you performed any FREE firmware upgrades? Loyalty starts there. Has support not answered your questions? Or do you think raising issues publicly suits you better? Look how fast you get responses on here. You said you dont meant to be confrontational but are making some strong negative comments on feeling left out. That's called passive aggressive behavior and most people don't respond well to that.

My BEST experience with RED has always been off this forum. DIRECTLY. They have gone so far and above for me on so many occasions I truly cant count them.

Hence, my being so positive online towards this extended "family". Expanding the sales to tens of thousands from thousands clearly will cause growing pains... I highly recommend trying direct contact with support, Ive yet to be let down.

I at least hope the company that has the BALLS to let their customers vent online has some merit to you. Give them a chance to make this change right... they rarely disappoint if you give them a chance. :)

Agreed - and part of why I would gladly pay MORE for Red (instead it's a crazy bargain).
