  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Competition to guess Scarlet's features and price-tag!!! (FREE post for indi short!)

Rob, did you know that if you take the pattern of * and " " in your amusing post above, place as wavelet coeficients into a REDCODE decoder, you get the a highly compressed image of the Scarlet itself? Rob, that is SO clever!

Graeme

Shhhh Graeme!

"You get the chicken by waiting for the egg to hatch, not by smashing it with a hammer"

Rob, regarding Your motto, the problem is that when You smash chicken with an hammer - you get it instantly...

When You wait for egg to hatch a lot of things can go wrong: someone else's egg hatches sooner, or their chicken can grow faster and fatter, someone steals Your egg, Your egg does not hatch due to global warming, the same chicken that laid Your egg lays another one that is much better or more to Your "taste", etc...

All of us are way too hungry, but fortunately patient at the same time...

:innocent:

I stole that line from Jarred, hehehe.... I just liked it! :)

I guess it's being a Software Engineer... we like egg hatchings to be perrrrrfect

Even better

1. CMOS 2K
2. Interchangeable Mount System IMS (P+S TECHNIK)
3. 2K optical viewfinder extra buy (P+S TECHNIK)
4. Sensor DR 11.5 stops
5. Variable frame rates 1-120 fps
6. Can use existing Red LCD
7. Record to CF
8. Price: $8750 without 2K optical viewfinder.

That could beat SI-2K and ARRIFLEX D-21 like cameras, also similar HD products from Sony like F23, F35, Panasonic, Thompson Grass Valley, Ikegami etc.,...

Just to keep in mind - we are (for now) only equipped to handle 2K uncompress in real-time for editing and CC. We could do post in 4K, but through 2K proxies. I assume You will shoot with RED ONE, not Scarlet... ;o)

Yeah, definitely on Red. I'm not in good graces enough to have any sort of advanced stuff.

And yes, I think finishing Red stuff in 2k is the sweet spot. Heck, I think 2k finishing is fine even for a 35mm out.

2K is very much the equivalent of 35mm, if not a bit superior in terms of spatial resolution. 4K competes in terms of s.r. with 65mm IMAX. I had the pleasure to analyze in detail the differences between 35mm, 65mm (and 70) and digital 2K and 4K formats as a part of research for development of film restoration system for Kurosawa's family. The only remaining advantage of "analogue" film is the dynamic range, which can be addressed by capturing HDRI - surely where RED has to go (maybe not with Scarlet) to compete with film...

Hey Terry!

An actual tie is not likely as no two post can be added at the exact time and I have clarified that if there are two (or more) exact same bets, the one that was posted (or edited) before the others wins.

But if You have followed the "marketing stunt" (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11440)
the date at the end of the "trailer" says 04.30.08!

Now that goes well with Jim confirming that RED won't be selling ANYTHING at NAB...

If we win can we use the post production thing whenever we want?

In general the answer is YES, but it will depend on our availability. You will need to book it in advance and You may need to wait a little...

Also please consider that we are located in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz - MEXICO.
The value I've quoted was based on 1 month post working about 4 hours Mo-Fri. It will include editing, color-grading, sound and final mastering (2K-DCI with 5.1 Dolby). We may squeeze in few effects or other goodies, especially if we like what You are doing...

Edit:

You can rent a simple apartment for bellow $500,- for the whole month and the food here is great and cheap. We will help You organize anything You will need while here with us...

Thanks Peter, or Mr. Majtan? I don't know, I'm sixteen...
