  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

colorfool friday - fool apps are available with 30% off ...

Having 2 or 3 different lengths of cables would be convenient.

Hi John, let me know which cable lengths would work for you...
planning on making 1 short main cable (USB-C + power in for device to CTRL lemo port) + extensions (CTRL lemo female / lemo male) for crane and other remote work... several of those extension could be added if needed.
was thinking 2 meter (6 feet) for main cable and 10 meters (30 feet) maybe for extensions to keep it simple on inventory ... would that be good for everyone or would other lengths be essential ?

and feel free to get in touch to troubleshoot iOS disconnect issues. first suggestion is to try turning off cellular network if you're on iPhone...

Hi Mikael,

2 m and 10 m, USB-C to Lemo, would be perfect lengths for use as you mentioned. I look forward to using them. Thank you.

Regards, John

Mikael, not sure I missed something. But what can the wired solution do that the wireless cannot? The whole concept and coolness of foolcontrol is being able to control your camera WIRELESSLY via your smartphone or MAC, isn't it? I am confused. Sorry.

Underwater, Helicopter, crane, russian arm, multicam/VR/360 rigs, gimbal, places where wifi is not always possible like hospitals, space station... and generally wherever you can be wired and want to avoid any potential wifi issue... obviously not very practical for drone use tho ;-)

Ah gotya. Silly me, forgot about those special situations :-) Although, is it not possible via wifi for russianarms, crane and gimbal? Should be doable, not? On my drone it works up to 50m.

But yeah, a 300m cable for drone would be nice. Also if I loose sight of the drone, I can pull the cable and get it back LOL
BTW, actually there was a guy who powered his drone via cable (live broadcast). But then you are very limited in terms of maneuvers you can do.

Mikael, so the cable would only be for Android app use? Any chance of getting a wired version for iOs?

I run a wire for another device in the Russian Arm car and it needs to be 50' when using the 27' arm (extention). Will you be able to put the 10m together with another 10m?

Hi Steve, iOS wired solution exists since the beginning but is very expensive due to very limited availability of the app that cannot be distributed thru the App Store due to Apple rules.

Android cable can use several extenders (up to 50m) or you can easily do extensions yourself if needed...

DIY cable are also possible and can be made of any length but the one I'm making (almost ready now) will have a nice extra feature not available in the DYI ones : it will allow to control the camera while charging the phone thru same USB-C connector

Where can I purchase an iOS cable to run Foolcontrol from distance of 50', and about how much does it cost? Although it might be better to wait for your new cable and purchase the Android Foolcontrol license.

the cables itself is made by REDPark.com and can be purchased easily but as they say on their website :

"It is licensed through the Made for iPhone (MFI) program for use in private deployments under the terms of an enterprise, education or personal iOS developers license. Under current Apple policy this cable may not be used with apps sold on the App Store."

so it requires a special version of the app that can only be distributed to a few devices outside of the store... that is why Android is much easier (cheaper). Email me and I can send you all the details...

Hey Mikael,

I updated Foolcontrol to 3.25 today and app keeps crashing as soon as it connects to the camera (Monstro, Gemini). Did not happen before. I have a dedicated iPod Touch 5 running iOS 9.3.5.
Can you please fix this or send me an earlier stable version? I think I was still on version 3.01 or something.
Appreciate it.
