I'm extremely tempted to jump on this sale, but I have some concerns.
I've been using foolcontrol-r (the restricted version) for a few shoots, mainly because I think it's frigin' cool, and I like the remote trigger a lot, but I always wished I had full control. However using it I found it to be extremely unstable, loosing connection constantly, even though I have the phone right next to the camera. I've been using it on my Iphone X and Ipad Mini 4, and I shoot on a Scarlet-W. I mainly use the AD-HOC mode, I haven't tested out the Infratructure mode, I hear that's better thought? I haven't done rigorous testing to see if it's the camera failing on me with it's WiFi.

This is by no means a complaint, I just wanted to hear peoples experience with it, because the EUR 189.99 pricetag is a little to big for me, for a "let's try it an see what happens" situation.. Can anyone share their experience with the stability of the connection?

I had the same experience, tested on several platforms on several cameras, on several occasions and several locations.
I would say I need a cable between the phone and the camera to make it production worthy the wifi stuff only has worked from time to time and to put it shortly very unreliable.
 
It does work fine if you do not have too much wifi interferences in your area and no camera accessories blocking wifi antenna (large top plate etc)... or other transmitters creating disruptions on same 2.4 channel.
I can stay connected for hours here with no issue and a lot of people use foolcontrol everyday...

Recent firmware updstes also improved wifi but DSMC2 antennas can be a bit weak so reliability mostly depends on surrounding wifis, channel setting and other wireless signal interferences that can unfortunately easily happen on set.

Best practice is to use airplane mode and keep cellular network off, other tips (wifi channel check, 3rd party accessories ...) are detailed here : foolcolor.net/tips.pdf

Android version also allow use of a cable (you can make one yourself or wait for the dedicated usb-c + power to lemo single cable with extenders foolcolor will very soon be offering... this solution remove all the wifi headhache...

Possibly, but I been on alptops, middle of the desert and all kinds of deserted places. And I would it´s a lie to say anything else than DSMCII wifi is not production worthy. I use no top plate, I tried with out wireless video and no other wifi or wireless stuff around.

Can you share your WiFi adhoc issues with RED (ie raise a ticket).

If you could explain what ‘unstable’ means that would be great too.
Eg ‘to fix the problem the camera touch screen is required to disable and renable WiFi. Only after reset will the camera process new WiFi traffic’.

I would like to know what you did just before the brain experienced a problem too - To see if I can reproduce the problem.

My understanding is that Red prioritise what to investigate based on resource & number of people raising issues.

My guess is that most people with WiFi problems are not raising tickets...

If you could share how the brain WiFi fails / what you have to recover - that would be great.
(Sorry - didn’t mean to hijack this thread - I very much want adhoc WiFi on Red camera’s to work flawlessly!).

Thanks Antony for jumping in.... I think you meant to ask Björn or Torben not William who did not mention any issue...

Also knowing FW version (or trying again on latest release) could be important as some fixes have been addressed by RED.

I also have been contacted a few times in the past by people with wifi issues which (for some of them) ended up being hardware issues that RED was able to identify and fix.
Most of the time I'd say, wifi issues are related to interferences but firmware or hardware fixes have also being observed...

The problem is not wifi interference but the weak build-in wifi antenna in Dsmc2 bodies. If you want to use foolcontrol in production environment, you MUST install either the WC Wifi plate, Rtmotion Sidekick, or the new Terradek RF.ACI (although I haven't tested that one). All these units will extend the wifi signal tremendously due to the external antenna. You can even boost the signal by replacing the stock antenna (2db) with stronger one (5db or even more).

On the iOS side, I usually have a dedicated iPod 5 Touch just dedicated for the task (Airplane mode). Important is that you have the iPod/iPhone turned on at ALL TIME (deactivate auto-lock). Because once the phone locks the screen, it will take a while until connection is re-established in foolcontrol. Sometimes it even loses completely and you have to reboot your iPhone.
You can buy lightning-Dtap cable to connect phone to external power source, though.

I have never had any issues with this setup. Constant and reliable connection even in the most polluted wifi areas. Even on drone, connectivity up to 50m no problem. In remote areas sometimes 100m. We are talking about wifi here! So don't mix this up with radio link.

We just picked up two copies of Foolcontrol. I really like the interface, but have not tested much the wifi capabilities.

Sorry for asking this question which have been touched upon. I have an foolcontrool license on iOS (have not used it yet more than 5 min to see that int worked) I like to use my hydrogen one with a cable instead. Do I have to rent fool control for Android now? It's for the same camera.

When will there be possible to buy cables? (I have gotten the blueprint for diy).
 
Ready made cable are coming soon now... but still a few weeks away... got first prototypes working great here and adding an extra feature... will soon post about it to see about length / version people would prefer before I can prepare first batch order...

For licenses, Apple does not let me transfer, cancel or do anything with the licenses on my end.
Best I can do is offer you a couple of month of free camera license to test the app on android.

I take that offer. But I wait until the cables is out. I prefer cables.
 
I just got the android version with the hope of using a cable to interface my W8K-He with Foolcontrol. The app interface with DSMC2 cameras is truly outstanding, but I experienced inconsistent WiFi connection when using the iOS version. I will try the suggested tips, but antenna signal strength issues and WiFi interference can be difficult to overcome whereas a shielded cable should solve the problem. Having 2 or 3 different lengths of cables would be convenient.
