  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cloud Atlas = AMAZING!

Did not like Cloud Atlas,
Was trying to understand it all the way trough and can only say that I did not. The makeup and VFX work I found in some parts very poorly made. Like a girl having things glued on to her forehead is taking a bit to much focus I think. But then again as I understand this is actually a little independent film so maybe I just had to high hopes for it. Life of Pi on the other hand did not try to be complicated and is something I can just imagine would be super cool to see as a kid.

I think perhaps it's because the movie was mostly invested by a Chinese company, and the original target is in China^ Unfortunately the goverment don't accept it as a Chinese film since it's almost completely not made by Chinese, neither does the Chinese audience support that film(although it got very high promotion and quatation) very much since it looks too "Hollywood". Just guess:rolleyes5:.

Strangely enough I saw Life of Pi with high hopes and was pretty let down. IMO it was a nice picture but nothing to write home about, it felt too "Disney" if that makes sense? I know I know Disney had nothing to do with it haha
Life of PI is a very cruel dark story, people eats each other, PI even ate his mother, and you think it is disney????

Interesting views from you all.. Im walking into my first feature very soon and to read so many different opinions really makes me feel nervous. But hey... Thats the game where in right. :)

I personally liked both movies.. equally as much. Both completely different, both memorable.

That's exactly my point, its a very dark story and so I felt the cinematography, art direction, VFX etc were way too pretty for the reveal we get at the end. That to me took away from the impact the reveal would have had other wise, I know its probably targeted at a younger audience but regardless I felt if they had shown Pi going through more struggle and suffering it would have had a greater impact. To me his journey seemed more like a nuisance than a real threat to his life. Again, this is all just opinion.

I loved the trailer and then missed it in Germany as well. Not too much promotion although Tom Tykwer (German) was the Co-director...

Got your idea. Anyway I like that style, a cruel story hidden in a disney look, Chinese audience love that movie very much, although a big local movie company tried lots of ways to get rid of that movie because they want their stupid OSCAR-Target movie occupy all the screens, that company got a big failure to PI (also that stupid movie showed nothing but their arrogance with ignorance, and got nothing in OSCAR's pre choice) . Anyway , Pi could get much better income in China actually, that company did too much to hurt the market of PI.

Yeah Mark, I'm amazed how people can watch the same thing and react to it so differently.

What frustrates me is when people say they didn't understand it, and blame the film for being muddled. I understood it perfectly and wouldn't have wanted them to change a frame. Great story telling.

I think it's true that you just have to put it out there knowing it's exactly how it should be, and some will love it, others will hate it, and it's not your responsibility to try to please everyone, unless you're Michael Bay.

Very limited distribution in Belgium here, where it just was released in only a very select theatres, and not the big ones. Pitty, because considering the Wachowski's and Tykwer took a big gamble raising the money independently, I really hope it pays of for them. I hope the industry can't say afterwards: "see, doesn't work!"

About the movie: loved it!
Not every scene worked, but I was completely engaged. You felt you were taken on a journey. Even my girlfriend, not the biggest movie lover, said immediately after the movie ended: I would really like to see it again, next week or so!

I thought all the actors did a great job. You could feel that they had fun playing all these different characters, and doing crazy things. Kudos for the actors, going with it. Personally, all the actors playing different roles really worked for me in this movie. Even the make-up wasn't so bad as I would have feared.

Great movie, one of the best of 2012 in my opinion, can't wait until it's released on Blu-Ray. Hope it gets juicy extras.

classic case of a highly underrated film, and another financial disaster at the box office in the U.S.

but absolute proof you can have a film that's both art, and has the great hollywood beyond reality look and feel. really pushed the actors to their utmost ability as well. i thought one or two of the tom hanks roles were a bit over the top and he wasn't his best in them, but either way it was an amazing collaboration, gorgeous cinematographer, vfx team was top notch, and overall one of my favorite films in a very very long time.

wicked movie, ben withshaw has a brilliant career ahead of him, what a great actor. loved him in tykwers "perfume" as well.

amazing in the perfume, even great in his bit part as Q in skyfall. he's blowing up!
