  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon C300 Announcement...

shaking head in disbelief....

I think Canon needs to explain how a 1080p camera just became a $20,000 camera?

My RED cost me $17,500 before MX. You could get a second hand kit even cheaper and probably scrap together some bits and come in at around $30,000? with even more than double the resolution....like way more...so how the heck did they get that price tag?!

Edit:

Could the addition of the high ISO account for it? I mean what I've heard is 2K was the highest most people would go with EPIC? On the Canon was 16,000?

SHOCKED!! It's a terrible camera for that price! And it's NOT 4k or RAW. It has a 4K sensor but only delivers at 1080p. 60fps max. TERRIBLE!

Don't forget he said that at a Canon conference and not on a set. Well, he must've said it on the set too.. With Canon people around.

What's amusing is that they tried to place this camera above the Sony F3, and ignored Epic-S, which will eat it alive, for less cost! Actually, they didn't totally ignore Epic, the design looks a lot like an Epic. Imitation being the most sincere form of flattery.

Engadget homepage now states 4K

"It contains a Super 35mm CMOS sensor and delivers up to 4K resolution"

Not sure what to believe....

Nope, seems though the sensor sees 4k, puts out 1080:

"720 60p. 30 and 24 in 1080 etc by planetmitch (moderator) @ 5:19 pm" - planet 5d liveblog

If it came with the two zooms and the three primes $20,000 i'd pick it up otherwise I think I'll pass : )

Ok I have fallen out of bed laughing now - $20k? not that much more and you get an Epic. don´t they have market researchers? people actually checking whats out there today available and all? target group scouts and that sort of thing. who is suppose to buy this? its not even raw. it MPEG2 1080p with no slomo - this is beyond a joke. no HDR no still frame usage no uncompressed no 120fps (or whatever we are with epic now). nothing. its only marginally better then their PHOTO cameras - but only because they don´t do the lineskipping dance. ridiculous.

It looks like Hasselblad. Know the industry.

If you consider every small square minimalist camera an epic yes. Looks more like a mamiya 645 pro than anything.

If it shoots 1080, it is not even in the field with the Sony F3 as the Sony F3 has an option for 4:4:4 out through S Log Dual Link. The Canon doesn't have that option and is inferior. Also something is very organic about Sony's chipset in the F3 just like the Alexa with a bit less dynamic range. Sony is great for minimalist lighting conditions and they have major experience in the F35 which a lot of technology was passed to the F3. Again, did I mention S Log. The Canon, unless they release something to release that true 4K isn't in the ballpark so how in the world could they claim 20,000

I sat through the entire Canon event, and all I can remember is "$20,000". Doesn't make sense.
