  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Control...

yes its a single hex key and yes it is the final design and no its not a nightmare to change on set....

Charles...how would you prefer to change modules? Velcro?

I agree with Jarred. As far as I know the module system Red has developed is groundbreaking. It's not like the changing of modules has been possible before and therefore created a special work flow that will be disrupted because of the hex key. They have only added a possibility, not a problem.

To make something attach in a solid way some sort of screwing mechanism is needed, to my opinion.

...Details of the release schedule for EPIC and Scarlet coming sometime in October. We are taking our time so you won't be disappointed.

Jim

I'm waiting from two years. This is good news.

I know what you mean Dustin, checking these forums several times a day is really an addiction. I'll go see my therapist hehe

For $12.95/week, you can subscribe to the Reduser Addicts Banscription. Your IP address will be blocked from accessing REDUSER in anyway shape or form. Heres a cost benefit analysis I prepared earlier:

Cost of replacing F5 on keyboard = $79.95 every quarter
Cost in productivity = $500 / week
Nagging spouse "Why are you on that thing.. who's this Jim..its just a camera" = $83738

As you can see, the Reduser Banscription is great value. Order today! Do not delay!

I searched all over the Sony website, but found no link to the Banscription. Where is it???

I'll just cancel my order and wait a little more for sexy Scarlet!

I would advise you to sleep while you can - once you've got the camera, there'll be even less time to lie down...

Hey - sorry, I came off a little harsher than I intended. Shouldn't post in the middle of the night after a long day... Swapping on set would be a pain, rather than nightmare, is perhaps more what I meant.

Rather than velcro, I would say a cam system, like a cam-lock bicycle wheel. It's more secure than a screw, requires no tools, and should be on the side or top for easy access. Even something like a mason jar lid might work, thinking about it more. The point is tool-less.

This is my train of thought:

With the RED One right now, actually the only thing that really bothers me is the cradle, and the allen screws needed to operate it. Having a big T-bar allen key around to adjust that thing is slightly annoying, and the screws never seem to get quite tight enough for my liking. Basically, it ends up that it gets set at the top of the day, and then left alone, rather than being adjusted on the fly.

With a screw-based system on the bottom of the camera, the camera has to come off of the tripod to change modules (except maybe if you only need to change the last one, and you don't mind a little contortion). And you need to keep that Allen key in your pocket.

If there was a cam on the side or top, switching modules would be as easy as swapping a mag on a 416. Which is very easy.

I'm just very skeptical of tooled solutions for things that you might want to fiddle with.

All that said, I probably wouldn't be swapping modules on set much, but I just foresee never swapping modules on set if it means un-tripodding and un-dovetailing the camera, and digging out a little key.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Open up your hosts-file and write "127.0.0.1 www.reduser.net" on your pc (there is a similar file on macs) and you're set. I did that with my office pc for facebook. Somehow reduser.net isn't a problem for me. ;)

BTW: It's looking good.

Could you possibly find knobs with the appropriate threaded shaft and hand tighten? Something like the yoke knobs on a light only smaller?

Charles, tell me why one would need to switch modules so often.

No news yet.... guess I'll go back to work and check again in the evening.

Do the Banscription guys take Visa? :w00t:

So I signed up for the banscription last night but I’m here during business hours you might ask how this is possible. Well someone has already created an emulation application that makes the reduser website look like work email… No more sneaking around…
:emote_couch:

;D

Just out of curiosity, how do you guys expect to avoid accidental stripping of the screw hole for the latch mechanism? It would stink to have it stuck locked on!

I Imagine it wouldn't have to be screwed in too tight. Might be the kind of deal where you turn it a certain amount then it "locks" instead of just using friction to hold it.

No good. I'll just have to use TOR and then I'm out $12 and REDUser will load slower reducing productivity further.

Yikes - I sure hope that's not the final design! That would make swapping modules a nightmare on set.

I don't think you read carefully.

It's a latch MECHANISM, that is operated via a recessed hex-key "knob".

The mecanism is internal to the module, and grabs mating anchors form the module it's attaching to.

Itss NOT a bolt+thread combo. It appears very robust and simple.

Search is broken at the moment, so I'll leave it as an excercise for the reader to find the relatively recent thread of the IBC video/pics all compiled in one neat place for you.
