I've been trying to find a solution, but I can't seem to solve this.

My Dragon just arrived today, and we opted to just go for a switchblade in place of a side handle or a touch (DP7 coming in tomorrow). From what I've read, I need to ensure that I'm on at least firmware v5.2.28, but this camera was shipped on Friday and I would expect it to (as promised on the website) be sent with the most recent firmware.

Anyway, I've installed the mount and the ssd and the switchblade, but when I boot, the switchblade just will not engage. I've even attempted to reseat the switchblade, with no success.

Anyone?

You can update the firmware yourself if you've got a REDmag handy. Just copy the firmware to the root directory of the mag, and boot the camera up with it inserted in the SSD module. It'll take about a minute (fans blasting) and then power down automatically. Remove the SSD and try rebooting to see if the Switchblade engages...

Actually the exact instructions come in the .txt file included with all the firmwares.

Thanks Mike,

I'll try that right now.

Went through the steps, still no response from the switchblade.

Try rebooting the camera without the Switchblade attached. Then upgrade your firmware. Then reboot with it attached. Give that a shot. Playing a hunch here.

Thanks Phil,

I'll give that a shot.

Same results.

Such a deflating "first night".

Hi Justin,

I believe Bryan is your Rep, I will have him reach out first thing. If he and tech support can't help remotely we will get a replacement out to you.

Regards,

Michael

Thanks Michael,

Yeah I actually emailed Bryan a few minutes ago about this about ordering a few more things.

Hi Justin,

Please be absolutely sure you have the Switchblade seated completely. I know others who have had difficulty with the initial placement and then applying a bit of pressure toward the camera body, to engage the bottom of the Switchblade, while tightening.

Thank you very much

Fury

Thanks Fury,

It's definitely seated properly.

So to update everyone,

Last week I connected my DP7 just after I got it, powered up and the switchblade actually turned on - but was unresponsive.
I then powered down, disconnected the DP7, after which the switchblade would not turn back on. I tried every different permutation of combinations of connecting this and disconnecting that during boot to no avail.
On friday RED shipped out a new Switchblade. I hooked it up tonight, no difference.
Trying to get my hands on someones redtouch so I can run a log file.

I hope this isn't a serious issue with the brain.

No need for RED Touch... When you shutdown the camera (press side power button for a few seconds until cam says 'shutting down') it will save a log file to the REDMag. You can then send it to RED support.

Is this true?

Why hasn't anyone from the bomb squad mentioned that simple fact?

i had this problem when i purchased the switchblade too. I actually had to install the most recent beta firmware, instead of the official firmware. At least a month or so ago the official firmware didnt support the switchblade. I havent had any problems with the beta firmware though so maybe give that a shot if you havent yet.

Nevermind, I know the steps you're talking about.

I've tried installing the beta, as well as ensuring the SSD was removed before reboot.

I had the same problem. You have to update the firmware to beta 5.3.27 for it to work at this time. Once I did it, the switchblade worked perfectly.
