Hello,
I have been developing an external device to control some parameters on the scarlet but I have the camera available for testing for a restricted amount of time.
Is there a simulator/emulator that I can run on my pc to test the camera answers to my device queries?

Thanks
Manuel

Brain... simulator?

Are we talking A.I. or fool control by brain? :cornut:

I think this item comes with no arms or legs included :D
Do you think some other tittle will be more accurate?

Thanks :D

What Manuel is looking for is a SW version of the RED DSMC ASIC "OS" - just like there is an iPhone simulator to allow testing apps without physical access to a device...

Manuel, I doubt RED has ever released anything like that to the public. I would contact Jarred or Brent directly to see if they would consider this. With the 3rd party HW accessory support announced with Weapon - this is not a far fetched request...

Thanks Peter,
That is a pain... I have to drive 60km to be able to test something:(
I will try to contact them.

He's looking for an SDK level Donna that you can send RCP commands to and get replies. It would be very useful for development to not use 'hours' on your brain or to develop while your camera is rented out.

I several time thought of making one (so people could test my apps without a camera) but it would take some time to create a good one and it would only be that : a simulator

unless it is made by RED alongside each firmware evolution it will always be limited or prone to induce different response or with a different timing compared to a real camera brain...

Another option I used while developing my apps is to connect to a real camera across the internet (camera GIG-E -> router, open external WAN port and route it to camera IP port 1111).

Can't say it really help with reducing burning hours on my camera as it needed to be on 24/7 but once or twice it allowed me to keep coding and testing while travelling :-)

Oh now there is an idea. Have a camera hooked up to something like MINION and leave it open to developers. There aren't many of us and RED could use a crummy old Scarlet with laser damage or something. It would be up-to-date. It would react exactly like a real RED camera. RED could even make it password protected to login and add your IP to the whitelist. Just point it at a pinwheel or something and leave it running 24/7.

I've created a red-server for simple testing on my local network. I will make it public from my github when it responds to :S: & :G: Commands
