What are the rules of buying/selling here?

I just tried to buy a second hand lens from a user on this forum and they only wanted to sell it "as is". . with no right of inspection from the buyer or 2 day period of return which is customary on ebay and most camera reseller sites. Is that normal on red user?

Or do most of you expect to be have a grace period of a day or two to check what you are buying actually works?

Well, this isn't eBay so I am not aware that there are any set rules for buy/sell. My guess is that the "rules" are whatever is agreed upon between buyer and seller, as shaped by applicable law.

most items on ebay are sold as-is with no such 2 day period of return.

If you dont feel comfortable with the terms, move on.

I meant what are the expectations of buyers rather than the rules. I know there are no formal rules

Would you all be happy to buy a used $6000 lens without seeing it first?

I would always ask. A lens especially. Anyone uncomfortable with allowing you to check it out and ship it back at your expense is a bit questionable.
