Has anyone received one and taken photos yet?

Um. How do you think this thread got started?

I am predicting that, from this time forward, ALL Red gear will be manufactured in the US. This thread must drive Jim and co. nuts and, I am certain, they're virtually powerless to do anything about it. I can feel their pain.

Cool Bernd.

Do you like them?

I haven't been delivered mine yet, but i've used it in LA ( at Red).

Apart from weight and size improvements, the optics are improved, and the luminance detail from black to white is greatly improved. The biggest and most exciting difference for me is this:
My issue with the original EVF is lack of detail in the luminance Department. Very obvious when you look at the luma ramp test pattern ( large bands of gray instead of a smooth gradation from black to white). It was an issue for me when trying fo focus looking at a pale face, for example, as there is not enough detail visible.
The new EVF leapfrogs way over the Red Pro LCD in 'luminance smoothness/ detail'. I'm sure I'll use the new EVF much more than the old one for this reason.

The "free EVF warmer" is courtesy of the designed-in heat of the newer unit.

You'd think at least one recipient would throw us a bone by now. :001_unsure:

... OK 6 months and 520 posts later....

You'd think at least one recipient besides Mark would throw us a bone by now.

you would think.....

Uhhh…you guys making posts like that are simply demonstrating that you haven’t read this entire thread. For your review, or first view since you apparently haven’t read this whole thread:

In my post #189 of this thread (Page 19, clear back on September 2), I verified that I had a Bomb EVF.

In my Post #191 of this thread (Page 20) I gave my initial impressions of my Bomb EVF, and stated that I received it in early August, 2010.

In my Post #211 of this thread (Page 22), I explained more of my usage impressions of my Bomb EVF.

In my Post #358 of this thread (Page 36), I posted a photo of my Bomb EVF sitting there with my Red One 0008 camera.

That Post #358 of mine refuted Zakaree’s claim that nobody but Offhollywood had a Bomb EVF. Zak, in that post I said you had a short memory - and now you're agreeing with these new posts that state that nobody has posted a pic of their Bomb EVF ? In your Post #396 you acknowledged me having a Bomb EVF and the photo of it. What's up with you now ignoring that post exchange of ours?

Is it true that a carrying case is included with the Bomb EVF as it was mentioned in the mattebox thread?

My post #358, on Page 36 of this thread, which features a photo of my Red One 0008 next to my Bomb EVF, also has the shipping case in that photo, and mentions in the text that the Bomb EVF ships in a case. Its like a mini-Pelican case – strong and durable. If you'd have studied this entire thread, and read my Post #358, you'd have seen a picture of that carrying case, and read my verification that the Bomb EVF camera with that case.

Rather than look silly, I think you guys should take the time to thoroughly read and digest and entire thread before making erroneous claims. I took some time out of my busy production schedule to make my posts on this thread – and it would be appropriate for you to reciprocate by taking the time to study through this thread before making inaccurate posts.

As an early adopter of Red, for years now I’ve donated my time to Red User to make thousands of posts here explaining my impressions of Red cameras, accessories, and their multiple uses. If I’m going to donate my valuable time to do that, you can take the time to read my posts. Right?

Red Team has had some significant hurdles to overcome in getting the Bomb EVF out en masse. They’ve explained the delays throughout this thread. They work unbelievably hard at getting their products designed, fabricated, and shipped. My hat is off to them for that, and their transparency in the process. You guys will love the Bomb EVF…its been frustrating for you waiting, but when you have it and use it you’ll be way glad you waited. Just sayin…

I assure you, I read every single post on this thread prior to my latest comment.

I've always appreciated your contributions. I have a good idea of what I'm getting (including EVFs) because of you and Mark and others. Thank you.

I can't speak for others but the point of my post was not to point out that no one has given any feed back about the BOMB EVF.

The point was to emphasize that , although we've been told that the EVFs are currently and continuously shipping out in small numbers, it would just be some additional (and very timely) pacification to hear from some more folks who have received there gear along the way.

I fully trust that , if RED says they're shipping, then they ARE shipping. It would just make me feel good to see some more folks post about how happy they are with their new stuff. That's all. EDIT: ...and keep me highly entertained while I wait.

...hope you understand.

Joe

I do understand your frustration Joe. My taking time to post here is largely an effort to do just that - to help others waiting for things with my insight, impressions, etc.

I'm guessing that there are a lot more Bomb EVF owners out there now than Red User members assume. I'm also guessing that we don't hear from them here on Red User because they may be buried with work and can't find the time to post here - or they simply aren't the kind of people who feel driven to share with others. Hopefully some of them will read this post and decide to share their info and impressions more frequently with members here.

The point of my last post was to illustrate that its not true that no one has given any feed back about the BOMB EVF - I have, and so has Mark. By the wording on your posts I quoted I think you can understand how I derived the notion that you hadn't read my previous posts on this thread. Now with your latest post I understand your position more clearly.

Bottom line for me: the Bomb EVF is the best EVF I've ever used in a 30+ year career in this industry. I'd be shocked if each of you receiving or renting one didn't share that same opinion when you get your chance to put one to use.

Again...I feel you everyone's pain...and my posts here on Red User have always been in a spirit of voluntarily sharing my early impressions of Red equipment, to help everyone understand what to expect when they get theirs. To me its just good "karma" to take the time to post my impressions...and hopefully each of you would do the same if our positions were reversed.

...some great points. ..and definitely good karma! :cheers2:

The RED-EVF was without doubt the best in class when introduced, and now the Bomb EVF surpasses even that benchmark; it's brighter, lighter, and has a smaller footprint. Well worth the wait, although we certainly acknowledge the wait is rather longer than anticipated.
