this black sun has appeared everywhere from B&W film to pretty much every raw still image processor (in different shades of color)....i believe the BMCC still has the issue....i somehow doubt that firmware will be able to fix it...post seems to be a better solution....
i will actually get mine next week, bought it because i had to get resolve and at that point it is a no brainer....
let's be serious....either one of these cameras at those prices are to be considered....yes, there are drawbacks, yes, there most likely issues that require workaround....but let's be honest...which camera does not?
i will use the BMCC as a walk around 13stop raw camera....the dng stills look great....really great....
i might reconsider when the file sizes get too huge.....but all in all most criticism does not seem fair when considering the price....i would take these over any dslr for video work any day....at any price....but i don't shoot hours of video and i don't need built in sound....
The ability to hang this camera off the side of an Epic is kind of tempting. As a "rough" B-Cam, its very intriguing...
There's apparently a "black hole" problem too...

BTW, who is Phillip Bloom?
a rough B cam with 13stops DR and raw or prores files![]()
Playing with one as we speak, so far, the results sure don't feel like 13 stops.
I was rooting for this camera to be a great crash-cam, or B-cam when the Epic (despite how small the Epic is) is just too big for a camera setup (such as in cars).

Doesn't look like 13 stops from the footage I've seen either. I really want to like this camera. I hope things improve.
While I might not put Philip Bloom in the same category as Roger Deakins or Bob Richardson, he is talented and has done some nice work. I think the backlash is more about his decision to shill for products that had flaws he knew how to minimize - in that respect he is seen by some as contributing to mis-information, which, it could be argued, led some folks to buying decisions they later regretted.

not affiliated with BM in any way but i really have to disagree with pretty much all of what you are saying....Black Magic is a very sleazy company, sleazier by the day - I for one don't fully trust anything they make gear-wise. Many of their PCI cards are also complete bullocks/garbage and neither last nor work as advertised. I'm sure it will have all kinds of other issues with reliability. It's a 3C product - Cheap Chinese Crap.
What nice work? All I see is lost of craggy types at bus stops set to old tracks from Moby.
