  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Jesper, it's still a current lens in their lineup. Older design but optically beautiful so no complaints!

Sorry, Paul! I see now what you mean. Just thought it was an L-lens. Bit of an L-snob meself so I didn't even consider the possibility of a regular lens. must have been the 2.0 that fooled me. There are very few non L glasses except for the 50mm. which has that kind of speed.
;)

Hi Eric,

We all know your a busy guy.

So in the interest of getting a little love sent our way and not taking up too much of your time, I've created a little reply form that you can use to let us know what's going on.
Just pick a letter and your done. Should only take you a couple of seconds.

So here goes;

................

Dear RED users,

I haven't shipped the mounts or communicated anything about it for a week because;

A: Everything is done and ready to ship. I'm just waiting so see how freaked out everybody gets cause it's fun to watch.

B: I ran into another snag and have been feverishly trying to get it fixed before I send the mounts out.

C: The new surprise feature is so cool that I want to get it up and going before I let these things out the door and I don't want to tell you.

D: I've been to busy in post finishing the feature length film "Birger screws Red users", and then I'm headed to the Bahamas with all of your money.

Love,

Eric
...................

Others may have a few more options to add for you. But these are all I can think of right now.

Thanks for your time,

Greg

Light At The End Of The Tunnel

Light At The End Of The Tunnel

Just to remind everyone that there is a light at the end of the tunnel....

I did a quick test yesterday with my EF 100mm f2 lens on the Birger mount to see how it looks.

This was shot wide open with zero lighting other than our office fluoros, at 1/50th shutter speed 23.98fps using Build 17 3.4.1 and processed from R3D to TIFF using RedCine 3.1.8 and then tweaked in Photoshop for colour. Click on the image to download a full size 4K JPG version.

The results speak for themselves. Once the Impero is delivered I think you'll see a true revolution in low budget shooting develop which looks every bit as good as much higher cost cinema lenses for 99% of projects. The 1% that still need the specialised qualities of true cinema optics will continue to use them (and we would too for certain needs) but for the price of the Red 18-85 zoom (which is FANTASTIC btw) one could buy an entire set of fast Canon L primes and have a formidable shooting set. Those economics are not to be ignored in these uncertain times....

Hope to be close to the light at the end of the tunnel.

Great imaging Paul, can't wait to try it out for myself. When the mounts arrive.

We resumed shipping today. All tracking numers that went out will scan by 9pm EST. Have one more thing I need to do before I walk these packages over to fedex personally.

Had a few minor issues, that I wanted to work through before shipping. Curt/ViewFactor are supposed to have my first production Imperos here in the morning. None of the issues were ultimately worth holding up shipping. But, I seem to have gotten to this paranoid place.... An engineer always wants to make it better... or so I have been told I should stop doing.

More tracking numbers tomorrow. The goal for the next few days is to increase the number of mounts shipped each day, and spend some quality time with the Impero to make sure those will start shipping too.

.... Ok then I guess it was #"B". + there shipping now.

Well thats good news. Thanks.

BTW I faxed my installation approval request form, known as "Appendix A", on 1/27/09 but haven't received a reply of permission granted or denied to install the mount.

In the agreement form itself it states that "BIRGER shall within 5 business days after receipt of this appendix A, and attached paragraph regarding qualifications, provide approval or denial for CUSTOMER to perform the disassembly."

It's been well over "5 business days" and I haven't received any word yet. What is the method of letting us know regarding approval or denial of this request?

Has anyone else received any word on this?

Greg,

Just wait... There's been a lot to do up to this point.. Let's get the mount in people's hands before we start buggin Erik on the next step.

I'm sure it will all be taken care of, but first, let's get these mounts out.

Agreed?

Well, yes of course that's the first priority.
But getting the mounts into peoples hands if they can't install them "legally" isn't real desirable either.

That said, I'm good with what's happening.
