Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Thanks Ketch

I will order the 50mm f/1.4 and save for the 85 f/1.2L. Hopefully the control issues will be resolved.

I'm pretty sure that they will and that the 85L will work great with the BIrger and will be fully controlled, just make sure to get the Mark II when time comes, you definitely don't want the first generation of this ens, still a good lens but the Mark II is so much better.

ciao

Martin, Glen,dmig,

Did you check your tracking numbers? Does the Fedex page say just "package data transmitted to FedEx" or does it also say "packaged picked"?

Since last Thursday my tracking number page has shown "package data transmitted to FedEx". I finally called FedEx and asked what does this mean. They said this implies Birger Engineering has submitted the data of the package to FedEx webpages, but no package has left Birger. That is, Birger has not asked FedEx to pick the package from them. It's only when the system says "package picked" the mount has actually left Birger.

To learn all this is ... confusing.
Ours had a similar incongruous description on the Fedex tracking site dated 5 Nov., then I noticed when I checked the Fedex email (not the site) again today that it also said "This shipment is scheduled to be sent on 11/05/2008".... however no sign on the tracking site saying its been picked up either. I'm still hopeful it might ship this week, but you won't catch me holding my breath.
Appears the Fedex notice is a tool for placating the masses somewhat (but stirring others up also, it seems).

Edit: note I just read that again, 11/05 is 5 Nov to you guys, isn't it!!! Damn these mm/dd/yy dates!

So is Erik involved at all in the new lens interfaces for Epic and Scarlet?

I'd post this at Scarletuser if it was accessible, so sorry if this is out of place.

With the B4, C-mount, and mini-Red mounts coming for the 2/3" Scarlet, could anyone recommend a good "starter" zoom lens for a soon-to-be RED/interchangeable lens newbie?

Thanks for any advice or redirection to another thread.

-Matt

CWS, thanks, it's consoling to know there are others in the same boat of having the tracking number while the mount is still not shipped.

Beta test program

Beta test program

Did I miss something or not understand this right?

You ordered in March of 2008 and got your mount before customers who ordered in November and December of 2007?

Hi Jason,

I know you post here often and I realize that you are a huge Birger supporter. I sympathies with all of the Birger customers and hope that every Birger customer will soon have a mount. Erik is producing and trying to keep up with the huge demand for his product. Erik and I have been talking about beta testing since the end of 2007. My card was charged in full for 3 Birger mounts in March as I agreed to receive only 1 beta mount. I think others were skeptical about paying in full, but I had all my eggs in the Birger basket and couldn't settle for less. In addition, I'll remind everyone the risk of being a beta tester, as my Red camera i-cable was shorted and I(NOT BIRGER) paid Red $2000 to repair my camera.

Except for the Red Ones that will be circulating out there, if Red no longer makes Red Ones in favor of the Scarlet and Epic, will the birger mount obsolete now?

I was just thinking the same thing.... :waaa:

There is still plenty of time to make the investment back (if the mount ships)

Once again... Thinking the same thing... In fact, I think its unfair to say the the Birger will be obsoleted by Scarlet and Epic. Rather, it is likely that it will be incompatible, as will be the Nikon, and IMS mounts.

The RED ONE isn't obsolete. It is still a very relevant camera, and likely will be for another 2-3 years, at least. The mount is still applicable to the RED ONE, and is such, not obsolete. Words to the contrary are like suggesting that your DSLR batteries are obsolete because Canon announced a new model that uses a new battery type. The battery is still relevant for use with the intended camera.

sell the mount on ebay to people who are looking for red birger mounts. Don't expect to use the current harddrives/cf cards.. with the upcoming reds..

The Birger could easily be adapted by Erik or a machinist to work on Scarlet/EPIC.

The real question is does Scarlet/Epic via the RED FF mounting system provide the same thing? It sure looks like RED has decided to sell a Birger-like mount the way I'm reading it. They have a set of full frame autofocus lenses coming out at some point. Given that Jim is a big Canon fan I'd have to wonder if RED's system is compatible with Canon glass.

The Birger mount on a RedRock, Brevis etc. still makes sense. Or perhaps Eriks implementation will be better/cheaper than what RED sells and it will remain a great solution on Scarlet.

If you get through one movie with a Birger it was probably worth it.

The new Red digital lenses does autofocus! :)

uhmmm... i did read that right? AF = Autofocus? Or was Jarred kidding me when he said good guess?

I don't recall anyone who has been lucky enough to get their mount reporting on how good/bad the IS holds up when shooting motion. Hasn't anyone tried that yet?

IS is awesome. shot with it our at Burning Man. shooting with it here while I travel the EU....

its awesome. I use it on my 17-55 and my 70-300

you hit the middle button then the top and bottom together. ( or vice versa) you hear the IS turn on.
