That site seems to be down for the moment. Google archive seems to suggest that he is working on a dumb mount for the Red - but other commenters here suggest that it has a knob... Guess I have to wait for that site to be up again.
Any info on the warranty situation with RED and this new Canon mount option?
Coming to think of it, these are the Red mount options I know of:
- PL Mount (expensive PL lenses; no warranty issue; built-in)
- Birger Mount (smart Canon mount; warranty resolved; unknown delivery date)
- IMS mount (many mounts; currently voids warranty; shipping)
- Doug Underdahls mount (dumb Nikon mount/aperture control; warranty ?; shipping)
- RED Nikon mount (dumb Nikon mount; warranty resolved; shipping)
- ET mount (unknown; unknown; in development)
- Andy Lesniak Mount (Canon dumb? mount; warranty ?; delivery date?)
Shipping today are only the Nikon mount (which only works with Nikon glass) and the IMS. Once/if Birger ships, that will open up more doors, as there are many adapters for Nikon/Contax/... lenses to adapt to Canon EOS. Alas, I know of no deity that can predict the final shipping date of the Birger mount.
But anyone who has invested in Canon or other non-Nikon glass in anticipation of Birger is pretty much screwed. It is either buy some Nikon lenses and wait for Birger to finally, finally ship; or take some risk and go with the more elegant IMS mount.
Gee, I wish this could be quickly resolved, either by Birger shipping or (arguably preferably) getting the IMS warranty resolved.
Hey, I am starting to sound like Sanjin
