  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

but do you want to void your warranty? - is the questions of the month

If it's delayed long enough, the warranty issues won't matter.

Me, I caved and got the Nikon mount a couple weeks back. My cheap little manual Nikkors are now making beautiful footage (though it's kind of comical to see that tiny 50mm poking out the end of the massive RED camera).

The Nikon mount is totally worth it, if only because I can now visit this thread at my leisure and not freak out for lack of updates.

EDIT: I think getting the Nikon mount is stage 5b, corollary to "acceptance."

thats good to hear, cause im getting my Red 2moro, with nikon mount (after cancelling birger)
I also got stumpy the 50mm to play with haha.
You could almost do covert filming, with your excuse being, "im not filming i dont even have a lens on it, see!!!"
HANYWAY!!!!

Tooooooooo funny! I'm howling!

"I'm not filming. . . see I don't even have a lens on it! That thing? Oh. That's just the body cap."

Yeah, that 50mm f1.4 sure is a dinky little thing, isn't it? Happily, the other lenses actually have a little bit more heft to them, and putting a mattebox on also helps a lot with "the look."

But anyone who has seen footage from the Nikon glass can't help but be impressed. It is gorgeous.

You should have told him, "Yeah. I'm looking for oil. I'm using a kryptonite-charged X-ray vision motion control scanning system. Just look at all that oil down there! Don't tell anyone, but there's some people in this county who are going to be really rich!"

:-)

Here it is
my kryptonite-charged X-ray vision motion control scanning system

btw the way i was using the worlds smallest 1920x1080 HD camera (at the time)

Peoples reactions are just as bad when you use your dslr for timelapse, clicking away: "what ya doing!!!!"

HHHHHoff topic - Excuse me! Phew!

Please no Ketch - I have all the patience in the world to wait for Erik's mount, even if the knobs & BT remote ships later on...
Going right now through R&D for several RED accessories myself I know exactly what he is going through...
Erik, I know it doesn't mean much - but You have all my support & patience. I too believe in quality over quantity...

(I know I am gonna get it for this one...)

:) Peter

:) Don't wary Peter,

waiting it is one of my Forte's!

I have a substantial investment in "L" series Canon glass for my Photography business, some of which lenses were purchased after the testing of the Birger mount last year, and the latest addition of the 200L IS was almost entirely for RED/BIRGER, so I'm not about wanting to miss out on using it with RED, hope to see you soon in Vegas my friend, the girls are waiting as well:w00t:

I gotta admit. . . that thing DOES look like you were looking for oil!

:-)

But I wouldn't have swallowed the line about kryptonite.

:-)

Okay, this is WAY off topic, but Mizael's discussion of ants has got this ol' brain a thinkin'.

Is there a really good DVD version (as opposed to a "bootleg" copy from a VHS tape) of "The Hellstrom Chronicle" available out there, somewhere? I'd love it on Blu-ray, but that's probably a bit much to ask for. I originally saw the film at the theaters in 1971 and was totally blown away.

Not heard a bean from Mr Birger after an email informing me that my mount was tested and packaged on Saturday. It's now Thu, not a single reply from my emails since (I've long given up trying to call him) for either a Tracking No or just refunding my full £ payment.

While I await to hear from Birger, I have no option but to send a letter to my credit card provider disputes dept.

As for people making out there is a Birger mount, all I can say is 'dream on' ... I've just woken up.

Totally pants :umm:

Something is definitely wrong if this happens. Tested and packaged? Even if a disaster happened and a birger mount accidentally dropped on Erik's foot and he was rushed to ER for his foot injury (just like Kardashian), it still would have been mailed out by an employee (it's not that difficult). So no possible excuses here.

There are a lot of possible excuses here, Jason. . .

. . . unfortunately, Occam's razor suggests this one:

"The stupid thing STILL doesn't work!"

The images this lens can produce do are just stunning!

But he tested it!

Oh yeah... I forgot... you're right... there is an excuse.

"My dog ate the shipment."

Sorry, my bad.

Hellstrom had a similar effect on me when it came out but I remember thinking that it had a bit much of an us against them tone about it.

Similarly, have you seen Microcosmos: Le peuple de l'herbe - exquisite 1996 French insect driven film? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117040/

I would love to see Hellstrom Chronicle again if it is available.

Hey Ketch, is the 200 image on this different then the 200 image that I'd get from my 70-210 L?

Jason,

you mean the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS? It is very unfair to compare a Prime to a Zoom, even to one as good as the 70-200L.

Yes, the EF 200mm f/2.0L IS produces by far the best images I ever seen on any other lens, including my two favorite the EF 85mm f/1.2L II and the EF 400mm f/2.8L.

It has an organic and 3D fill to its images like no other, and the Blur it produces wide open is just beautiful!

Will do a review shortly.

ciao
