Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Oh, man, Jason, I gotta disagree on that one. In my opinion, the Birger thread is, by far, the most provocative thread I've ever read on any forum anywhere. There's always something new. . .

. . . on the other hand, it's just like they used to say:

"Same circus. Different clowns."

Or, perhaps:

"Same result. Different excuse."

Thats stage 7: insanity

welcome to the club

Or here

Erik emailed me (yesterday) to say that ... QUOTE 'It was tested and packaged on Saturday. Your tracking will be out later today."

No idea what the delay is now ??? ... it's worse than pulling teeth ...

David, when did you place your order? and would you mind telling your order number ...

(Quite the guessing game ...)

Thanks!!

hehheh.

The only thing new on this thread is the day of the week that Erik might make an announcement or start shipping.

Or...
the only new thing is the "actual" date on the thread.
Same issues were discussed a year ago it seems, hehe
good luck guys

David, when did you place your order?

To be honest, I cannot remember !!! Erik emailed me an invoice-PDF (107.240814) on Thu, 29 Nov 2007 21:14:49 -0800 (PST) so my order will have been sometime before then ... sorry I cannot be precise when. Some folk seem to suggest that 107.240814 means Nov 2007, 24th at 08:14.

I assume he processed each in turn as they came in; I suspect that some folk may been selected to be beta testers (earlier adopters).

Hell knows what's going on ... no sign of a tracking number at my end. How long does it take to ship a packed parcel ? I can only guess that some brown, smelly, sticky stuff has hit the fan again ! very very disappointing

The numbers are timestamps. The first three digits represent the month the order was received. 107 is November 2007, 108 is December, 109 is January 2008, etc. Only Birger knows how many mounts have been ordered altogether.

Hey Ralf, things just not adding up here - I ordered on June 25th 2008 and Amy sent me confirmation on August 22 with the numbers 114.250932.

Joe, what AKABAKA said seems to make sense - you ordered in June (114) (... July (115), August (116),) I ordered in September (117) ... let's not hope there were more than 250932 orders in July :sarcasm:

The whole thing is a timestamp; 250932 means his order was received at 9:32 on the 25th. There's no way to tell how many orders there are from the number.

... so we're talking like 9 months prior to my order ... Oh, my ... :cold:

I hope the order-date / delivery-date - ratio isn't exactly linear .... :pinch:

Working from memory it was a few weeks before we got the invoice notification.
It is indeed a BIG lead time, very very frustrating considering this is something that was well understood by the developer.

Compare and contrast to : http://www.andylesniak.com/red/ I have one of each on order and have a private bet as to which I will receive first ;-) See also : http://www.vimeo.com/1501055

I think Gary Stone's post succinctly announces the eventual doom of the Birger thread.

It would seem that Andy Lesniak has done, in about two months and starting completely from scratch, what other folks have not been able to do in well over a year.

I'm utterly shocked and totally thrilled with this development.

I love competition. As I teach every day in my classes, it is the very oxygen of excellence.

i agree stephen. andy has a battery powered control box for his mount already in the later design stages, with a knob close behind. and don't even get me started on the price...cheap!

I am excited about Andy's mount, but to announce the demise of Birger is very premature. Nobody has seen how smoothly Andy's mount will control focus, or how responsive the knobs will be. This is the key to making his mount successful, if it cannot do this then it's only going to make do as a stop gap.

That's not to take away anything from Andy, I personally hope he does make his kit very fluid and responsive, and he has come a very long way in a short space of time. But it's all speculation at this point to say Birger is a Dodo. Don't forget Andy's product is not shipping yet either.

Erik, some news, please.... I am almost completely insane..

As someone noted above, "insanity" is probably correctly categorized as "Stage 6."

Stephen

OK. I think it's about time for Aqua, or Mark or somebody to post one of those reassuring posts about their mount.

Remind me that the sky is yellow, the grass is blue, billionaires deserve a trillion dollar bailout with no oversight and my Birger is shipping this week.
