  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Since i/data was enabled in build 16 and Birger is going to use the RS232 port for i/data is that already functioning?

Two things:

1) we don't know if RED has implemented taking the i/data through the RS232 port...

2) The cameras that got fried were the one using the RS232 port to get power, and although the initial report was that it was due to pinching of the i/data cable none of the previous beta mounts not hooked to the RS232 had a problem so I imagine it is a little scary to be hooking into the RS232 even if it is no longer drawing power.

So I think this is an issue that has to be worked through fairly extensively with RED before it could be released. However, it would be really nice because we could get very nice info right on the screen in real time as well as recorded as metadata.

So please RED put this fairly high on the priority list, whenever Erik gets some time to work on it?

Hey H20. Did he by any chance tell you if they were Red Mounts or ones to his industrial clients?

he's just advised me that my mount was tested and packed on Sat, with tracking # to be issued later today ... so in theory I should have an update soon ! so, it would seem that there IS movement in the RED mount camp.

OMG, i feel a party coming on. But only myself and my mount are invited.

what order number are you H20? I want to know if I am before you, so I can get all excited and run up my living walls pretending to be spiderman.

Is there any word when the knobs and wireless capabilities will be ready?

Maybe it is just me, but, in my opinion, the Birger mount is essentially worthless without the knobs, and not incredible useful without the wireless.

Not for me Stephen.

Having been limited to a few primes from my 16mm Arri s, I am desperate for this mount. I can deal with manual focus for a while.

The knobs and BT will be icing on the cake.
Please ship mine Erik.

It is only a step without the knobs but it does let you use any canon lens and have iris control, as well as all of the c/y zeiss lenses, nikon, etc. in dumb mode. So once you have it you can forget about the nikon mount.

However, with the knobs it is incredibly useful for all normal types of shooting - wireless is only necessary for applications that need unfettered remote.

But I think we would all be happy if you canceled your reservation so we can move up one notch!!!

PS. hurry up and make the f***ing knobs Erik!

Without the knobs you may as well stick with Nikon unless all you've got it Canon glass. With the knob you could build a long cable for some remote focus apps like jibs. So that's useful.

I've heard some mention that the viewfactor knob operate the Birger. That might be a stopgap if Erik's knobs take a long time.

My order is (was ?) 107.240814 ... until I get the tracking number I would recommend remaining in a non-excited state ! I really do hope that quality control is good ... now.

Speaking with Erik, he tells me that BlueTooth was primarily put in place for THE way to upgrade the firmware; wireless control so happens to be a GOOD consequence ;-)
With regards to the mount being useless without the 'knob' ... I beg to differ, as a starting point having the aperture control is a BIG BIG plus for me ;-)

Lets all keep our fingers crossed ...

shitting Nora.... my number is 107.240742

so potentially mine was bagged up just before yours.

..and, breathe...

Should have! So does that mean the 24th at 7:42AM? If so I'm about 6 hours behind you guys... that could be 20 mounts for all I know though.

sounds about right, but still no tracking number. I'll post as soon (if) I get one.

hey, can anyone enlighten me as to which numbers indicate where one is in the delivery schedule? I'm number 114.250932

Joe, when did you place your order? I placed mine Sep. 2nd and received order number 117.021012.

Is the "117" like a "stack"-number ...?

Does anyone know how many mounts have been ordered until today? :detective2:

The numbers are timestamps. The first three digits represent the month the order was received. 107 is November 2007, 108 is December, 109 is January 2008, etc. Only Birger knows how many mounts have been ordered altogether.

Anyone in Boston want to go visit...

I was looking at the order numbers and trying to figure out myself how many are ahead of my order.
Erik this needs to be explained! Hire an assistant for a week and get this stuff up here.

If I don't here anything in 2 weeks I am going to cancel my order. I don't know if I will wait a month or 6 months? How fast are they going out? Who will get there this week? When will the nobs be ready?
Erik if you have trouble figuring the possibilities out hire a consultant, someone that does this kind of thing professionally. Erik you are an engineer, concentrate on that.

Where did my inspiration come from for this post. Well I wanted to find out first hand where Erik was at and have my questions answered so I tried calling him and as it turns out his number is temporarily disconnected. Did a 411 to see if there was a new number and no new number.
