Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Just back from IBC. No Birger in sight, but the IMS on display and shipping. Beautiful workmanship. Did I mention that it is shipping and has been so for a while. Accepts not only Canon, Nikon and PL lenses, but pretty much any mount.

Jarred, would this be a good time to bribe you with some more chocolate?

Does the IMS have its own ff solution?

How does it compare to the Birger mount other then that it accepts more lenses?

Is there anyone who has recently received a Birger Mount...? And if so, which Sales Order number are we talking about? I ordered mine on Sep. 2nd and received email two days later saying the Mount would be shipping in approx. four weeks ... might that be considered reliable?

ralf, if and when you do get your mount, could you post it here? i ordered mine sometime in january. it would be a helpful gauge to monitor the shipping progress. thanks if you do.

Actually, I'm going to start a "Birger Mount Received" Tracker thread. Not that we need yet another birger thread. but maybe it will help.

Keep going, Erik, we're pullin' for ya'!

It is not a smart mount, so you need to pull focus the old skool way... Which isn't a negative thing by itself.

I haven't seen a Birger, so I cannot answer that question.

Having said that it favours negatively as it currently voids the warranty, and positively in that it opens up a whole new and old world of lens choices, and that it has been shipping for a while. You can install the mount yourself or let P+S in Munich do it for you.

Akube ... that response just cracked me up ! funny how some people have just missed a historic thread  (historic for all the wrong reasons !)

Te he ... Erik used the 'today' word, maybe, just maybe something WILL happen this time round

Thanks Martin. I tried to find out the cost, but couldn't find it on their site.

Don't quote me on it, but the price was somewhere around 650 EUR for the basic IMS, and then about 300 EUR per adapter - you need only one adapter per mount type.

If you look through some older Sanjin posts, you will find the proper prices. Or just get in touch with P+S, they were very friendly at the IBC.

Thanks again Martin. I guess one of the benefits of the Birger is that it seems to be cost effective vs. IMS' benefit of multiple mounts and lenses.

What I like about the IMS is not being locked into a lens system. Hey, once the Red Primes come, I can use them without removing my mount. No cables to break, no suftware that might freeze.

I was initially very excited by the idea behind the Birger, but as time passed and passed and passed, I started researching other options.

You can get very good lenses for Contax mount, made by Zeiss and of very solid build. No plastics and long focus throws. No electronics needed.

As new lenses become available, you don't have to wait until they become available in canon mount.

I do see advantages for the Birger in these situations:

A) remote control of lens functions needed, but lens motors not feasible
B) existing collection of excellent Canon lenses
C) need to have the warranty intact
D) strong will to be patient

Well, considering that Red is only a 1 year warranty (right?), and it's taking that long for the Birger, "C" is becoming not much of an advantage anymore. I have "B", but IMS also gives this option as well. "D", I apparently possess considering I have a Red and haven't been able to use it much. "A", I'm not sure I understand completely, but I would imagine that there is another solution in one of the various other lens systems.

I guess I'm going to look into this IMS system for its cost, since that would be a major deterrant for me. I have to get a good ff system (view factor?) and then learn how to get my canon lenses outfitted for it. sigh... :(

First batch of 35?! Did you get your email notification? Mount?

I got like 2 email notifications.. one that said ull get ure mount in a week.. its been a month.. lol.

and I think there was one with the paid receipt and stuff..

so its still close but no cigar.

but aaah.. I ain't in no hurry.. my red has got this dust speck on its inner glass sensor protector.. cant use it much. So I thought i'd just wait it out till my number comes up for audio board change so I'll service the whole thing all together.

I thought the cables and knob come with. ? Or was that the free blue tooth. hmmm... it's been so long, I forgot. haha.
