  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

From Norway it would have been pretty long. Fortunately I'm in northern Germany (and travelling 1st class, but that is another story...)

Are you coming to the Reduser meet?

Heck, maybe we can set up a chocolate offer to accelerate the Red/PS warranty situation...

Erik's silence is usually an indicator that he's perfecting something and doesn't want to be distracted...

Maybe he's figuring out a way to put his mount on an IMS?

Here's to dreaming...

so ... what's the latest Erik ?

so ... what's the latest Erik ?

I am going to tell you that we have all our resources, and then some, targetted on getting these mounts out the door.

Erik, given that you have all resources (parts & people) ... 'and then some' ... can the folk who have paid in full get an update PLEASE !?!?!?

Sadly, and 500 $ painfully, I just ordered a Nikon Mount. Unfortunately I cannot be waiting for the Birger mount forever. I need to start shooting, and even though I don't have Nikon lenses, I have a few friends that can lend me some. They are not the best lenses, and no follow focus, but even if I got my Birger, the knobs will arrive who knows when. I rather be shooting than waiting.

I will still wait for the Birger, but my disappointment has got to its maximum. Hopefully I am wrong, but with weddings and honey moons, don't want to sound too pessimistic, but we're going to have to make it to post 5000!!

Now.... I cant wait to get my Nikon mount and start shooting.

muffinny, I (and many others it seems) feel your pain. I shoot Canon DSLR as a personal choice and was wanting to go two cams for one set of glass, not happening. I can't imagine the massive hemorrhages to business that this silent mode will render upon Erik but he only has himself to blame to be honest.

I'm sure he's a great guy and his business makes great products but a competent business to client interface should be a priority number one in any commercial undertaking, so sadly lacking here. Best of luck Erik, here's another potential client bailing out.

Cheers,
Mark.

I had enough of a nagging sensation about Birger delivery (even though it looked hopeful at that moment) that I ordered a Nikon mount with the camera and have been ever so thankful I did.

I bought two Nikkor lenses on ebay which together only cost something over $200 - a 50mm f1.4 and an 80-200 zoom - I love both lenses and will continue to use them (with the little $15 adapter) after the Birger arrives.

If your experience is anything like mine you'll never be sorry. I intend to keep the Nikon mount as a worst-case back - don't want to be in Uzbekistan, have the Birger develop a problem and not be able to shoot.

I'm telling you. . . that Nikon mount rocks. We shot a full feature on our two REDs this past summer, and every frame was shot using Doug's Nikon mount. I just today ordered his DX version. I'm a real fan. It is worth every penny.

I DO hope that the Birger/Canon comes out, but I'm telling you, I know what you mean about not being able to wait forever. I'd have had to shoot that film with a pinhole RED without the Nikon. I just don't have the coin to buy PL mount lenses.

Love the honesty Doc...

Call him!

He's human guys.. With all this bitching, I for one and WORRIED.. I just hope the poor guy's ok. There could have been an accident, an Illness, a death in the family..

He was communicating very well then he stops.. Be careful jumping to conclusions.

I sure hope I am wrong here.

Jay

Didn't Erik want us to not call him? Phone calls apparently slow down their manufacturing process.

Would be nice to know what's going on though.

I talked to Erik at about 3 PM today. He told me he was feeling great and will soon post new info. Mass shipments are comming very soon folks. You are soon to be rewarded for all the waiting.

Hey there, Mark. . . you fount of wisdom you. . .

:-)

Listen, what, exactly is Birger going to be shipping? Will we be able to control the lenses without the use of a computer??? I sure as heck don't want to have to tether a computer to my REDs to shoot with them.

I keep hearing about things like "no knobs" and "no wireless" and such. When are we likely to have a functioning unit that will allow us to use the Canon lenses wirelessly without a computer attached?

Thanks much.

Stephen

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but you can control the iris using the buttons on the side of the mount and focus can be controlled using the ring directly on the lens, so no need of a computer to operate your lens. Less practical than a dedicated knob, but more than tethering
