  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

and others think in africa there's only one kind of shooter.. that one arriving from the airport.. no offense.. but i might write it "no offence" anyway..

If You are truly in a middle of Africa filming with the Red One and don't have basic technical skills to do this, or have a technician in the crew - You are asking for troubles anyway... No offense...

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people thinking they know Africa. Or how the Africans must do or not do.

yeah.. these guys must think we all work at the U.S. Route 66..

The point is Birger has stated they are not set up for handling cameras and having handled hundreds of customer cameras over the years making custom housings I can tell you it is a headache - and it was easier in one sense for us since they were usually consumer cameras worth only $1000 or so. Handling $20K cameras is a different animal and doing it on a regular basis requires special insurance among other things.

If you live somewhere where you don't have local technicians then you can send it to a camera technician in Europe, here in the states, or wherever just as easily as you could send your camera to Birger. I know Jorge Diaz-Amador at Cinematechnic could do the install here in Miami and there are multiple technical service individuals and companies in New York, Hollywood, etc.

Any cards hit after responding to the e-mail?

Building and testing a lot of stuff today, even more on saturday. There will be a group of mounts shipping on monday... we are building in batches. I'll post on monday with the size of the batch.

We also have some documentation about connecting to the bluetooth, with a PC, that we expect to release on monday. All of our cell phones also seem to be able to pair with the mount.:nerd:

:nerd:If there are any iPhone or Palm programmers watching... our device is a Bluetooth SPP Server. :nerd: If you can: pair the device (handled by the phone), open the communication port to send a three character string, and display the response string on the screen, you would have iris, focus and zoom readout for the mount.:nerd:

Any idea how far out the 109 batch is? (Translation: Where's miiiiiine??) :)

Cool! Maybe I'll get my mount by the time my camera comes back from its' rental.

Sadly, iPhone SDK only support Headset profile, with no support whatsoever for SPP. You have no idea how disappointed I am with Apple after just having bought my iPhone to develop some of these apps. In theory it could be done with a jail-broken phone, but...

I knew there was a reason I stick to Linux... Buying the iPhone just reinforced it. :ranting2:

What about pocketpc?

PocketPC is totally doable. Eric has already put the protocol specs in my hand, I just need to install Windows on some machine somewhere and track down my copy of the WM5 SDK.. Or someone else can. :whistling:
