  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Right. Plus, as said, not every Red / Birger owner is geek or engineer as a few of you. Therefore, I'd like to know where can I swap the mounts without any problem as far as the warranty concerns. Can I order it from Birger? From Red?

Any help?

Have you asked your Red rep? Red might do it for you - for a price. Never hurts to ask.

Sorry I didn't reply, I am having too much fun playing with my Birger Mount. Glad to see post 2630. It helps explain the software. It ships with a db9 serial connector. You will have to purchase a USB to serial adaptor. We had to try two different cables before one started working. Today we tested with a 200' tether. We also implemented Kurt's On/off button from Viewfactor. All the components are working great. It is a great solution for remote start and stop. So far Birger has worked successfully with the following lenses:
Canon EF-10-22
Canon 180mm Macro
Canon EFS 17-55
Still testing other lenses
The graduations on the aperture and focus are very precise. I'm not sure how many steps are available, but I would guess there are more than 1000 steps for adjustment.

Thanks for the update!

Has anyone else received their mount? Mike?

Any footage or grabs?

Lonny is working underwater, that is why he has a cable for the computer. Everybody else will be able to run the software for collimation and remote control over BlueTooth. We spent yesterday and today working through a production issues calibrating the individual radios.

Lonny (ldill) has mine - they are renting my camera for a 2 week shoot in Belize - primarily underwater.

And Jarred, just wanted to thank you and the RED team for acting quickly - Birger is great for underwater because it allows simple swapping of lenses without concern for gearing - but it is also essential for something like Lonny is doing where they are remoting the camera from the surface - over 200 feet of cable.

Mike! awesome!!! do you know anything about knobs? Thanks Erik for working through the last few issues. super excited to test the lenses out, and we are headed out to Burning Man!

For people that needs distance for underwater remote control, I suggest to try the thin coax cable, to connect the BlueTooth antenna on the mount and on the remote control.

Cable has to be minimum 500’ long thin coax or you have to put 20dB in line attenuator otherwise you could blew up the BlueTooth. Erik is in the good position to try it on the bench, it should work.

When I think of "thin coax" I think of the RG-174 type which has an outside diameter of about 0.11 inches. Bluetooth (2.4 GHz) signals are attenuated about 2 dB per meter of length in this cable, so 500' of cable will have 300 dB (!!) of loss. Just 10 meters (32 feet) will give you 20 dB attenuation.

Yes, thin is a relative word.
I was thinking RG59
Also 20dB I think it is a minimum attenuation not to burn out the receiver, but it will work reliably up to -66dB with 15dB safety margin.

Anything shipping, yet? Anyone get any notices?
Just balance Visa charged for now.

I was thinking, about the BT FF, if what will be released, there is no news or design about it, just the fact that is free (at least for early adopters), will be under our expectations.
Because i'm thinking a remote like Viewfactor Impero would be pro enough and thats not for free...

If I recall, it's NOT free.. It's around $600.. But its Free to YOU because you are one of the TRUE BELIEVERS!!!! KALI MA... KALI MA!!!! KALI MA SHUNT DE DAE!!

Only true geeks will know where this is from...

Yeah, Birger might supply the service. Why not?
