  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

I suspect there are many lurkers like myself waiting for the final hurdles to be cleared... but at the very least, you can ratchet that back up to 31 :).

I know that missed schedules are frustrating things, but I will still be excited to get a Birger mount, and grateful that it will have been vetted by Red. I want to express my support for what Erik is trying to do, and my thanks to Jarred for trying to help facilitate.

If I only could get my hands on this new RED 18-85 my interest in Birger mount will go away significantly.
Yes, for underwater shooting, motorizing the PL lenses is big and heavy, but it gives us few extra stops of light.
More on lenses less on light compromise.
And in some large caves no light can do what extra two stops on lenses does.
We are going down heavy and fully loaded anyway.

Any news on RED Zoom 18-85?

they are still working on gettting out back orders of the 50 to 150, somewheres in the 200 to 300 Res. range right now. so 18 to 85 is a long way of.

8 to 10 months is my guess.

Erik, people are dropping like flies, and yet you say nothing. Your heart doesn't seem to be in this. Why don't you sell your mount technology to Element Technica and let them take it from here?

You make your investment back and no longer have to deal with this nightmare. Element Technica gets a jump start on their mount, and loses the competition. The customers would finally get their mounts (and with the excellent product support from ET). Everybody wins. Besides, would you really want to deal with customer service on these things?

Jarred, just out of curiosity... did you get that package yesterday?

The way this is going to play out from here: I will send a package to Jarred, and I will go dark until RED is happy, and announces the same.

Eric was quite clear that he was not going to be on the boards until RED have evaluated the new mount.

So please people, lets stop the harassment.

Erik was also quite clear that he was going to ship the mount to Red last week. Then Jarred came on and publicly stated that it never showed up. He also said that if it does show up, he is very busy now and can't promise when he'll have the time to approve it.

He didn't follow through on the shipment, so why should he still follow through on going dark. I think it is foolish of him not to get on here and explain what's going on. He would have prevented at least a few order cancellations.

I don't know what your idea of harassment is, but I was offering a solution that would benefit everyone (including Erik). I am not harassing anyone by stating that I believe Erik has shown a certain degree of incompetence in running the type of business he is trying to run. He's a nice guy and he's a genius. He's just not a good business man.

He could change that image anytime he wanted to.

My post was not referencing your post Harmonica. if I offended you I will eat my words :mail1:

Bottom line is if ET take over the mount it will take much longer to come out and the Birger is so close but the final decision is now in REDs hands.

And no one has confirmed yet what happened with the shipment, so lets not jump to conclusions on that score either.

Thanks, but I think I already fed them to you.

I understand your concern about ET taking longer, but I'm starting to think that might not be the case. It's true that Birger could start shipping the mounts any day now, but we have no idea how long it is going to be before the knobs ship (let alone the bluetooth knobs!). He hasn't even started the "two weeks" campaign with the knobs yet, and if history tells us anything, we're a good half year out on those.

I really, truly hope that I'm wrong and that things work out, but if and when they do, I'm still going to be concerned about what kind of service and support we're going to get from Birger. I would feel much more confident about an ET Birger mount (and even though it could mean waiting a little more on the mount, I'm almost convinced we'd get the knobs sooner).

I cancelled. Zeiss ZF and View Factor for me.

I checked their forum website. It looks very interesting. I forgot about that option. One problem I see with that is that in the video they show I think the prototype demonstration and it looks quite loud when focusing. I don''t know whether is the lens or the "view factor"

But quite interesting anyway. I don't want to cancel my Birger mount yet. I don't even have my camera  , but for sure I won't be waiting for months with my camera and no lenses. I have about a month to wait for Birger to finish otherwise I''ll have to move on and this sounds a pretty good option. Thanks for sharing.

Sure would be nice to hear something... anything - even if it's a "Sorry, ran into a technical problem, which will be fixed, soon."

I know what you mean. My hope is that if/when Eric ramps up production and the final payments start flooding in he can hire a few more people.

That is if everyone has not canceled there orders by then :waaa:

I have faith that in the end, once Erik starts ramping up production, and people start posting their experiences and results, those who canceled will reorder, and the Birger mount will prevail.

Curt is fixing that in the production model. He knows noise is a critical issue. I ordered one of those too. I wanted to be absolutely sure I'd have something 2 months ago. :pinch:

Oh man, I feel your pain.... Thanks for the info.

So are you going with the Nikon mount?

Thanks,

That would definitely help instill some confidence. I haven't cancelled yet, but I'm just hanging on by a thread :help:

That's what I'm hoping, but if I have to cancel, there's no turning back. I'd probably by some Red glass, and by the time I'd consider reordering, ET or someone else will probably present some more options.
