as always don't rely on unfinished and developing products for your projects...
Only rely on it when product is in hand and tested. Not trying to get negative. The word is pragmatic. ;)

I wonder if there is anything sitting on the front steps at Red... :nerd:

LMAO at the length of this thread.

Any chance someone could throw together a quick 1 paragraph executive summary of this thread? Are orders being taken? Filled? If I ordered today how quickly could I get one? Is this mount EF or EF + EF-S?

gracias!

Heck, I'll sum it up for you in two words:

"Two weeks."

Anyway, Erik finally hired an assistant who just a couple of days ago got up to date on all communications. If you were to order now, you will get it in "two weeks". But in all seriousness, when it does finally ship, he said all orders will ship within a couple of weeks. It is both EF + EF-S.

Let me explain. No, it is too much. Let me sum up.

Birger had about 200 mounts ready to go last month or so, but some of the first customers immediately started having electrical problems. RED received the cameras in question, decided the mount was causing damage, and declared that installing the mount would void the camera's warranty. Erik from Birger has been working with RED to get the mount certified, which is kind of where we are now. However, it still sounds like the mounts will initially ship without knobs, meaning no electronic focus for a little while.

to use the words of papa wallenda:

life is the birger. all else is just waiting for the birger

How about iris control? How will we set that? I've been under the impression that the knobs also have a slider to control aperture. And that, without it, you'd have to set the aperture using a laptop.

Can someone please clear this up? Or point to a post that explains how things would work without the knob?

Thanks!

In addition, the "follow focus knob" (to be released after mounts are shipping) can instead be assigned to control aperture. The remote controls, which I think will be released after the knobs, will each have two control surfaces, a knob and a slider, either of which can be assigned to control iris. So any one of 3 control surfaces can eventually control iris via lemo/wire or bluetooth.

Last shipment of the day just came.. no Birger. Our engineers are being sequestered next week so I am pretty sure I am not going to be getting those chocolates anytime soon....
