  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Maybe we can goad Erik into an update with some friendly taunts:

"VAPORWARE! VAPORWARE! IT'S ALL A BIG SCAM!"

:)

Next time Eric comes out the dark the mounts will be ready to ship...

I spoke to Erik yesterday. They were missing some springs for the release button, expected in today to ship initial batch of about 10 to the Beta users (without knobs) knobs next week.

For those who placed an order but no confirmation there is a special thread for that:

Birger "I didn't get a confirmation for my order yet thread"
Since it is obvious that Erik at Birger is overwhelmed and hasn't finished the paperwork side of things, and there is no way he's going to be able to sort through 72 pages of the old reservations thread, I started a new thread specifically for those that sent in an order but HAVEN'T been billed OR confirmed - the (Birger "I didn't get a confirmation for my order yet thread") .

That way you will have a public record that you ordered it and I imagine Erik will honor the free bluetooth deal for you even if he doesn't have your fax or email. And he will have an easy way to find those since obviously he might not have paperwork or email on his end. And if you want to cancel or postpone, then I would suggest sending him an email AND posting on this (Birger "I didn't get a confirmation for my order yet thread") thread. Please don't put the gripes or other questions here. I'm not trying to stifle anyone's expression - just think those might as well stay on the original thread:

(the thread we are on now)

Again, please don't post anything here unless it is that you had faxed or emailed an order but didn't get any confirmation AND you didn't get billed a deposit on your credit card. If he billed your credit card he obviously got it and unless you want it cancelled now don't post here.

I know I'm being presumptuous a bit - I don't know the procedure for getting these things moderated or made a sticky - but if a moderator sees this please do whatever is appropriate. Thanks.

...and one more "next week" is added to the tally. :umm:

Sorry to sound frustrated, but this is getting ridiculous.

Thanks for the update Aqua, are you sure he said without knobs? On the 22Erik said knobs would be ready in a week, the springs shouldn't have held up the development on those. maybe he hit another snag.

I can understand the delay in manufacturing, relying on suppliers, machine shops, etc... but the paper work with Credit card information went to Birger. Delays are a part of any design. All I'd like to see is a confirmation after placing the order over 5 months ago. I don't expect him to personally go thru all the paperwork, cc processing, & fulfillment. Not when he has design, assembly and QC to think about. Taking and confirming orders is the easy part. Hire an intern and help get it done.

Other than that, its an incredible piece of gear that he has designed.

If the beta users are just getting knobs, I assume it's for beta testing the knobs, then wouldn't that indicate the finalized knobs may be a ways off from completion? Until the beta users sign off on everything, everyone else will probably remain waiting, correct?

I have received confirmation of my order by email on the 4th of Feb.

I specified that I did not want my order to ship till June. If I would like to push that back to July how do I do that?

I am waiting till the BT remote is ready before taking delivery. (hope it is ready by July)

Thanks, Adam

you sent in your order in Feb and you got a confirmation? weird. was the deposit charged? a bunch of us who ordered in the first week have heard nothing yet.

But I believe in Erik.

Even so I do understand most of you guys frustration with Erik's way of communication, I understand also His situation, and for this I try to keep a low profile on this, and yes I did receive confirmation of my CC charge in full from months ago, but I too now really need this mount, as I intend to use it in my Feature Film project.

But I wait patiently as I did with RED.

The Mount is yet an other brake true, and for sure will amaze all its owners to be.

Ciao

Thanks Ketch.

Also I need it desperately but a patience is only way to go.

I ordered in early Jan... got email conformation in Feb. And yes CC was charged.

Still curious to know when BT remote will be ready. speculation would be cool too.

Ok. Here comes a rather basic question: what exactly does the Birger mount do?

(I've found absolutely no information on the Birger website, and have spent 2 hrs searching the reduser archives, to little avail.)

simplistically... it lets u use eos lens (with full focus and iris control) on the red.

And even more if you would read this:

"Many professional and amateur photographers have abandoned Canon lenses in favour of Olympus, Leica, Zeiss (and even Nikon!) lenses for their Canon digital cameras....

In practice, does this mean that with the Red Nikon adapter I can use Nikkor glasses - with manual control of focus and iris on the lens; while with the Birger I can put on Canon glass and have a remote control of focus and iris?

In other words, the Nikon is mechanical, the Birger electronic?

Is there a page that explains the benefits of the Birger?

Again, thanks for help & info.

I think you have it. As far as the Nikon. It is a dumb mount. You would need a lens with a manual Iris ring for it to work properly. That's my understanding.
