  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Yes it can!

Yes it can!

My mount is in the bag still but I beleive it can also be controlled via a laptop with bluetooth. I'll know soon enough, though. ;)

Download the software at Birger website, it controls the lens for sure.

Frazier Nivens, Ocean Imaging

Congratulations to all of you.

Have fun shooting..

Okay. . . so you are saying that I can WIRELESSLY control focus from a Mac laptop with the Birger right now? I'm wanting this primarily for Actioncam use.

Can anyone post a link to that software (preferably Mac)? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the Birger site.

Best,

Thanks for the info.

wanted to let you know that your last two links are busted. I don't think they were copied properly from the other thread.

estimated delivery on the impero please?..

We received our mount yesterday installation went perfectly,
collimation was easy but as stated before once collimated there is a space left between the mount and the camera body, not the best thing for dusty environment..
overall I'm very pleased with the build quality and ergonomics of the mount, thanks Erik!

we tested all the lenses we had around:
EFS 10-22: working
EFS 17-55: working
EF 90-300: not working
EF L 100-400: working
EF L 24-105: working
EF 1.4x extender: working but i-data info not going trough
EF 50 1.4: working
EF 100 macro: working
SIGMA 8mm : strange behaviour but seems to work... edit: autofocus on and everything is ok

pretty good start!

thanks!

How are you guys adjusting focus with the Birger without the View Factor unit?

Stephen

We use the ARRI MFF-1 and gear rings, works great and you have hard stops.

Best,
Frazier Nivens, Ocean Imaging:)

Thanks Frazier. Somehow I missed that.

Installed Birger mount and all seems to be working fine. Tested the 10-22, 24-70L and 70-200 L. Only problem, all the lenses seem much looser in the mount than they are on my Canon Rebel. You can twist the lens and it wiggles in the mount, moving the image in the viewfinder. Anyone else having this issue?

Birger Mount Rocks. Those of you fence watchers, My recommendation is the time is good to get off and give it a shot.

Lens after lens, great control, and stunning. I can't wait for the VF remote.

The only lens we had some trouble with is the 200 1.8. Erik, I'd love to send it to you to play around with it, but it's not mine!

I know it's been said it's smoother in PC than Mac. I'm running on a Macbook pro with Parallels. I can get it running on the Mac side, but it doesn't recognize it on parallels (even though I've told Parallels that it is using Bluetooth.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it running on Parallels?

All of our lenses fit quite tightly. I wonder if your mount is a bit loose. I've tried 24, 35, 50, 85, 135, 180 macro, 16-35, and the 24-70. Oh and the cheap feeling 15mm fisheye... that one has a problem when running the long focus calibration it gets stuck at the infinity end. I haven't tested it on a still camera to see if it's the lens though. Does anyone else have one they've tried?

I'm going shooting later for some quick tests. I'm really excited to have this set-up so I can use these lovely canon primes. The 24mm 1.4L II and 85mm 1.2L in particular are extraordinary.

J.

I am sure these questions have been answered but I didnt have time to dig through this monster thread:

1.) Is the Birger mount available for Nikon lenses
2.) How easy is it to change from the Red PL mount and back?

Nikon not available and I would suspect it's months away. It's kind of a pain to switch between the mounts due to the i/Data cable being tough to plug in and out. Other than that it's probably a 15 minute procedure that's pretty easy.

Keep in mind, however, that the i/Data cable is not required for either the PL or Canon operation--only if you want the lens data. For me, if I was switching back and forth, I would think twice about providing lens data both ways to avoid putting stress on that tiny little cable.

It is great--but I'm just sayin...

Yeah, good point... I just did the Birger to PL to Birger and I left the cable off the PL Mount. When using the Birger I really want the data cable connected because it shows aperture. Getting it on and off the Birger isn't easy. I really don't want to do it very often if I can avoid it.
