Birger Lens Mount Reservations

expecting my red any day, but with no pl mount lenses, just L series canons, I'm really hoping they get the canon mount out in a hurry!

How are you going to shoot any footage without a lens?

just fuzzy white footage. I'm not. That's why I want my birger.

If I didn't have a lens, I probably would have waited before taking delivery of the camera. But there are a lot of people with lenses who are interested in Red, so maybe you can collaborate with them. It's hard to tell when Birger will have their lens mount ready.

Will we have to remove the new PL mount to put on the birger mount, or is there a way to mount it without removing the original PL mount? Are the guys at birger making the specs off of the new mount or the old, non adjustable one?

My understanding is that the Birger mount will completely replace the PL mount, so, yes, you will have to remove the PL mount.

With all the talk of collimation and flangeback distances, etc., I know I would prefer having my Birger factory mounted by an expert.

Yes, also 'cause of that, I am buying two units. The first one @home will have a fixed Birger mount.

Nope - but we're hoping...and waiting...

It irks me that Birger haven't posted any test footage.

I just wired my money to Red, and I had to purchased the 18-50. What choice did I have? I couldn't take the risk of the Birger not working.

$6500 would have bought a lot of nice Canon glass.

If it does work, great.. but what am I going to do with the 18-50? I'll probably have to take a loss on it. Bummer.

If they had posted footage of successful focus pulls, I would have gladly waited, and saved $6500.

I'm disappointed.

I just hope that when it's released the wait (and the loss) will be worth it.

Was anyone else's card charged?
I sent through a scan of the form via email (no working fax machine where I was). My card not charged, and of course no return email.

any update from Birger ?

Could not agree more with your sentiments Thor !

I received email confirmation on Nov 29th & my credit card has been charged for the deposit. The order form quoted Dec 15th for Canon EF mount shipping ... however more recent posts seem to indicate starting sometime in Jan 08 (working from memory).

A post indicated Birger had a RED camera for 2 weeks for testing (late December ?) ... but no news since (sample footage, outcome of testing on the RED, or any confirmation of likely shipping dates).

Like AquaVideo (and I suspect Gates) and other u/w housing manufactures, all my plans are on hold until we get some idea of what is happening with the Birger mount (Canon EF in my case). The RED 18-50 is a fall back plan, but not what is on my drawing board at the moment :waaa:

I guess we should not expect all vendors to be as communicative and open as RED  ... RED really have set quite a bench mark = refreshingly BRILLIANT.
