Birger Lens Mount Reservations

I love the RED and meant no harm with our jokes while mounting birger

I love the RED and meant no harm with our jokes while mounting birger

Hey Red Users,
I'm super pumped to be working with the RED for the first time ever. Since I was introduced to the RED effort back in 2007 at sundance by HDforindies.com I've been pumped about getting my hands on one.

Part of this project is about the effort of creating it so we've been posting a lot of video at the films site AsTheDustSettles.com.

We've been very candid and open what we've decided to post and no offense was intended by my jokes while we mounted the birger. I know some of the things I said could be very offensive if taken literally but please interpret with sarcasm in mind.

The reality is that I think the RED inventors, engineers, early adopters and the entire community are all doing a brilliant things and I'm honored to be able to have our film benefit from this incredible foundation you guys have all created.

Long independent filmaking and long live the RED!

Dont worry Mike... YOU arn't in the doghouse :) Lynch and Stephen are ok too. It was a bad video that you should probably bury under a rock somewhere ... not (just) because of the insults, but because there is some bad and false technical info in there.

At any rate.. have fun on your doc Mike... let me know how it goes.

I didn't see the video, but I'd be surprised if any insults directed towards Red or its employees was anything other than an attempt at comedy. Sadly, many people can't pull off comedy - they try to do deadpan but it comes off as being serious, and many people insert vulgar profanity into their speech, thinking that it makes what they're saying funnier. There's a comedic phase a lot of kids go through in school that utilizes profanity and caustic insults. Some kids grow out of it, others don't. I wouldn't hold it against any of them.

Also, it seems that refusal to provide service to someone (because they said something disagreeable) would go against the constitutional freedom of speech. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure refusing service (at the owner's discretion, especially when the customer is not on company property) is banned in many states... primarily because businesses were using it to discriminate against specific groups of people (blacks, gays, Jews, hippies, poor, young, old, ugly, the list goes on and on). In this case, it would be discrimination against people with bad attitudes... and with our current economic woes, that could be a HUGE group of people!

Thanks for the post Lowkus, we will add you to the list :)

heh heh heh.. i kid, i kid.

Anyways...

It is very legal to revoke service to anyone that is unruly and confrontational.. in fact the Civil Rights Act (not the freedom of speech act) specifically allows it.. believe it or not it is actually one of the only situations you can legally refuse service.

and you got it backwards.. some cities (not states) actually REQUIRE the statement be announced if you choose the right to refuse service for reasons outside the "protected" categories...

Oh.. and one other thing since you brought up Freedom of Speech.. I am all for freedom of speech... as long as whoever is speaking is accountable for what they are saying.

If someone wants to make slanderous false statements that defames the reputation of a company and they are willing to put up with the civil and legal ramifications in doing so.. then I have no problem with anyone doing so.. Of course, in a situation like this case (defamation would be a bit of a stretch here), since this was actually broadcast, it would be called libel instead of slander, and libel usually has much larger consequences as the audience is so much larger.

But alas... as the boys explained.. this was just a bad joke.. so we can move onto the next drama :)

"No shirts, no shoes, no service", eh?

(Arri kept refusing to sell cameras to me, just because I could not afford them.)

I've been on the internet since the early 1990s, but this Birger thread really is unique in its own constantly evolving, occasionally informing, repeating, off-subjecting, flaming, calming, entertaining, frustrating, speculating kind of way

Hate the time I waste here. Love the time I spend here :)

Heh heh if you think this is exciting already Martin... just wait till the argument breaks out on who owns the movie rights to this thread..

:)

I haven't done a word/post count but it has to be way up there so I want at least a writer's credit and a solid percentage cut!

Not sure who we should get to play the lead, but one thing we know - it won't be a short!!

I don't even want to think about how many hours I've spent checking on this thread (or reading Reduser in general). My overall productivity is going to skyrocket once I've got my mount/knob.

What would you have expected from a bunch of kids going off to Burning Man...?? Arin's vlog will only improve once he's loaded on shrooms and weed...I can't wait!

If you censor out Arin's silly posturing, this was actually pretty interesting. It's the only video out there that shows the process of mounting this thing, and the phone call with Erik was interesting. If you filter it, it brings the process of pulling apart the PL mount, mounting up this thing, anxieties and all, to life.

Plus, the mount looks like a fantastic piece of work. I'm waiting this one out, to see all the bugs worked out. But it's quite freaking nice....

I sign of on all rights Jarred , as long as I'm played by either Russell Crowe
or George Clooney. Oh, and I get my mount....

heh heh i pegged you as more of a Brad Pitt kinda guy :)

...I got mail...mount will ship next tuesday or wednesday...so Birger mount will arrive...NEXT WEEK...:w00t:

The video was another great drama experience in this thread, looking forward whatever pops up next.

Sure hope so. I've got a couple shoots coming up in the next few weeks and I'd sure like to use the lenses I bought for my Red.

If John Malkovich weren't too old for the part, I'd cast him to play Jarred. I'd bet he can do that now famous (or...infamous?) smirk...lol

And Jarred has more hair!
