  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Beta Camera Build 3.2.13

A Feature Request:
I really really like the new inclusion of the Slate information. I typically like to have dailies made with BITC and burned in Shot/Take info (at least for narrative stuff) so being able to code this into the metadata in camera obviously saves a lot of time. Hopefully in RCX 15 we'll be able to get to the metadata?
Anyway...here's the request: please let us set up slots on the REDMOTE to correspond to Scene and Take. I know take auto increments, but it would be nice to have control from the remote without having to dig through the camera menus. Basically, for those of us not using touch screens (myself included) it would be really nice to have a flick of the wheel increase or decrease the scene info (1A, 1C, 1D, back to 1B when necessary) and then maybe another modifier key to get through the actual numbers (1A, 2A, 3A, etc.) Alternatively, perhaps the number and letter could each be given their own slot on the REDMote so that it would be super easy to control, while still being coded into the metadata as a single field. So it might look something like this:

I was the one who originally, previously posted the card full record problem. My Scarlet exhibits the same behavior, exactly. When I reported this, a Red team memeber posted they were unable to reproduce the problem. But you have, precisley. I was hoping this issue would disapear with 13. Not yet, I suppose.

We've tracked this one down. There will be an update shortly to address it.

I've updated my original post with a known issues section for 3.2.13

That's terrific news. That, and the HDRx audio issue are the only known issues I've had with these Beta editions. Although, I am still thinking the HD-SDI output levels may be too low. Scarlet's house bars, 100% white still seem to clip at 95 or so if I'm not mistaken.

Matt, any progress on the known issue of camera crash/immediate power off instead of automatically swapping power to the REDvolt in the side handle when power is removed/runs out from V-mount/external source?

If you're seeing this, you should contact RED Support and they will be able to help you out. It's most likely not firmware related.

Known Operational Issues:

  • Recording to the end of media while in HDRx mode OR while recording audio may prevent the camera from completing the current clip.
  • Mapping some actions (ISO, White Balance) to the rocker switch ofthe REDmote or side handle may cause the camera to hang.
  • LCD's on some cameras are showing a white or half white image on start-up

A quick reinstall of the FW fixed the LCD white screen problem I was having.

Matthew, Glad to hear that you and the RED Team are fixing the end-of-SSD Recording issue. I shot over a Terabyte of footage over the weekend, and after this happened I stopped recording at 3% just for safety. Thank you for submitting this to be fixed promptly.

I've noticed that when I have my camera plugged into D/C power AND I have a fully charged REDVolt in the Side Handle, it will simply shut off if I cut the D/C power, rather than staying on and swapping power to the REDVolt. I figured this was a future update issue, but from what you said, it sounds like it may be another issue.

Is this common, or is this something I should contact my Bomb Squad agent about?

To clarify, I am using dual power sources - both RED's DSMC A/C power adaptor, and a REDVolt in the side handle. Should it swap power back and forth automatically? Currently it swaps from the REDVold in the side handle to external power perfectly fine, but it does a hard shut off if I go from external power to the side handle.

The power should swap automatically. Contact your bomb squad rep and they should be able to help you out.

Where can I send log ? Red support did not send me any feedback since yesterday. I am having major Sdi problems with 2 Scarlett's and 1 epic M... Help me pls.

Good morning, when I use my bomb viewfinder now, I can't see the white balance and ISO settings change with the image. When I use the touch screen everything is fine.
Any idea?
Thank you,
Best Tim

Hi, thanks for your response. I rolled back to earlier firmware, as this version is not working, if you use your viewfinder together with your redmote. Have I posted something wrong?
Best, Tim

Is there a time frame when we can expect next build? I really want the new "key mapping" but I rather wait than run the beta. The question is how long the "wait" going to be.

i cant get phantom power working. i have a properly made xlr to balanced mini cable and several phantom powered mikes and all of them give me lots of noise and a clicking sound. the same cables worked on the last release build with no clicking sound or noise, using different microphones that had their own power though..

anyone else having issues?

I am trying to use the force preset files in Scarlet_build_3_v3.2.13.

I upgraded, reformatted the SSD on my mac using Fat32 and placed the monitor_presets_3_2_X folder on the card. I then inserted the card and powered up the camera. I still get no output on the monitor. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Many Thanks, Adam

- Create a folder called "force_preset" on the top level of your SSD
- Place the desired preset in the folder
- With your camera OFF, insert the SSD into the camera
- Start the camera, The preset will be applied on startup

Thanks! worked perfect. When I reformat the card I have replace the force preset folder on the redmag or can I set the camera to boot to HDMI by default? Regards, Adam

The camera will continue to have HDMI enabled at boot now until you:

- reset factory defaults
- perform an upgrade
- disable it in the monitor control dialog

You should only need the force_preset file again in one of those cases.

I've been running the 3.2.13 beta all weekend now on my Epic X, and it has worked fine except for one thing: sometimes the camera boots to the monitor half white/black and stays there. Have to do a hard reboot and try again. A few times it's take up to 15 restarts before I got the camera going and no half white/black view. I am very happy with it otherwise, but got to downgrade to be able to work properly with the camera.

If it is possible to send you some kind of log file, where can I find instructions on how to do it? Thanks.

Gear: Epic X, Quad battery adapter, Red Volt XLs, 5" RED Pro monitor, Redmote.
