When will the cables ship?

Hi Marcos,

I'm still waiting for those. All production companies aren't working during last days of December and first days of January so I can't do much about that I'm afraid. I will let you known when I will receive confirmation about delivery dates.

Best
Peter

Just did a first quick and dirty test and I'm pretty freakin' stoked! I'll upload what I captured sometime this evening. It's nowhere near a proper/thorough test but you'll have a basic idea of what I managed to get out of the box with a first try.

Okay, here's a quick and dirty. In the spirit of keeping my stuff light-hearted, enjoy the 0:25 mark...

Keep in mind this is the first time I've ever used any gimbal whatsoever. It was a fairly heavy rig. Had the Dragon with a 18-35mm Sigma ART lens along with a big 160wh vMount battery on the back. Had a 36" thin LCD cable from BattlefieldCine that I hooked up to the 5" on the handlebars. I'm on follow mode (tilt and pan) and the focus is static. I was also holding the gimbal by the top handle.

The bump at 0:40 is me hitting the gimbal (so not the gimbal's fault).

If you have any questions, ask away. I hope to do more tests in the near future (longer lenses, running faster, ...etc...)

P.S. That running kid hadn't even been conceived when this group buy started...

Hello Ryan,

nice one and funny to watch :) We hope to see more of such footage in near future from rest of guys from this group buy. Ryan, I'm still counting to see your short unboxing/story movie :)

And once again I would like to remind you to read manual and see tutorial movies, they are great help. In case of additional questions don't hesitate to contact Maciej from our technical support. He is there to help you out - but please remember that we are in Europe, so there is a time difference.

Best
Peter

but please remember that we are in Europe, so there is a time difference.

Is it a four week time difference Peter? He still has not responded to my email about the status of my v2 upgrade from Dec 2.

Piotr:

When's the actual v2 manual coming online? There are so many features that are not in the manual now.

Hi Marcos,

we are updating the manual right now, but like you have pointed out we have added a lot of new functions so the work is in progress. I believe it will be finished in January but I can't confirm you precise date.

Right now if you have questions please ask them directly to Maciej from support - he will help you.

Best
Peter

Hey Peter, will there be a mount for the larger batteries included in the accessory kit? Were we supposed to get that with the original package? I got a mounting plate in the package (type B) but it doesn't appear to lend itself to holding the batteries (I've got the red touch lcd screwed to it, working great).

Ryan,
Thanks for asking the important questions - and especially for sharing your experiences.
Looks like there is supposed to be a mount for the large battery included (Accessorium Type D)

Powering BS4 with small batteries is for lightweight configurations - like C100/300 etc. If you are going to power RED or F55 you should use a Large battery. Small batteries cannot be used with the Large one at the same time.

Large batteries can be connected in configuration of one or two at once - you can hot swap them.

In'n'Out is a power hub - it can be used to connect different batteries like V or AB.

Detailed specs on the In'n'Out module will be released shortly.

Best Regards
Peter

We are discussing what we may do with those who want receive full package. It would be best for us because of costs of shipment, but we want to ship gimbals as soon as possible. On Monday I will discuss that with our team.
We will also discuss additional large batteries. I've got no clue about quantities we will have.

There were questions about BeSteady Stand XL: I need to ask Max Salamonowicz, our CEO, if I may post pictures. Anyway - it is fully foldable, it may be used on plain surface such as table or ground, or (when upside-down) on tripod (mounted with photo screw).

If you would like to get in touch with me directly please use this email: peter@besteady.eu
I cannot still use my .pro email address, as we still cannot get any information from Registry.pro about our status.

EDIT: You may find our website here: www.besteady.eu and forums here: www.forum.besteady.eu
I'll be back in office on Monday, guys are still working there, if you got something important before Monday - please send PM to Max Salamonowicz on BeSteady forum.

Hey Guys,

just received my "Beast" and wanted to share my quick first impression.
for context i have a bit of experiences with the Movi (around 5 shoots) and quite a bit more with the Ronin as we bought one while waiting for Beast to show up.

what was in the package :

Gimbal
XL Stand
accesorium type A and B
plate and 15mm rods
screws
2 big batteries
2 small batteries
charger
remote Graupner MZ 12 and receiver
usb cable
big battery to lemo DC in cable.

what is missing from what i remember from the group buy list (feel free to correct me):

lemo to quad DTAP cable
DTAP to red epic power lemo cable
RED LCD flex cable
thumbstick controller
big battery mount

Build Quality and packaging :

-the gimbal in itself is very well build, the carbon and aluminium parts looks top notch. at least on par with the movi but way more integrated and clever design.
-the Peli Case is perfect, it's a real one not a cheap plastic one like the Ronin and you put the gimbal all set up inside, no removing the handle bar.
-charger looks cheaply built, and the big battery also don't look robust (there is a spot of glue protecting the wires and that got off instantly)

Ergonomics :

-having a LCD on the back is really really a nice thing, you can adapt / diagnose / change everything on the fly, no iPhone or computer needed.
-balancing was no trouble and tool-less, you only have to be used to the one screw for the left/right front/back adjustment, you have to hold the camera while getting the left/right and not crew up the front/back.
-the two tube batteries are awesome, when your flying a smaller camera you only need those.
-the fact that we will be able to power the epic from the tray is also amazing, no redvolts or big vlock on the tray! that's why this missing cables are an essential part of the kit.
-the easy adjustable handle are also a treat, thoses having trouble locking the ronin handle will love those.

Tuning :
- no complex PIDs like the other alexmoss, just a power and filter option, basically high frequencies vibrations : lower the power untill they are gone / low frequencies vibrations : get the power up. best spot is to be just "under" the high frequencies vibration.
- again all done from the oled screen
- got a red epic + canon lens + 130wh vlock back pack to work in less than 15min
- tried autotune and it seems to work (got the power settings up to 90% but probably because the balance was not very good) never got it to work on the Ronin so that's an upgrade ;)

Remote control:
-couldn't get the remote control to work properly, the gimbal just goes for an 20° roll and won't get the horizon again. pan and tilt work controlled by the remote.
i have figure out why it does that...

Computer/Phone tuning:
-couldn't get the gimbal to connect to the latest App on OSX, tried USB and bluetooth with no luck.. i don't have access to an android phone so i can't test it but i'll try from a windows pc later. i just hope they'll get an IOS application running soon..

Actual Stabilisation :
-hard to tell without complementary tests, but it looks promising. i'll try to do the same handheld run with the ronin/movi/beast and get a better feel of how it performs against the other.

overall i am very happy to get a functioning and pretty well designed/built gimbal after all this time, they are still some stuff that i have to figure out but even as it is i feel confident it's a great step up from our Ronin.

we really need to get those missing cables (at least the power option) to enjoy one of the greatest feature of the Beast but when they do we should be able to say it was worth the wait !

i'll report on my progress.

Cheers and happy new year !

Thanks for the review Loic, and both of you for the lists.

Can you tell us which spot you were on the waiting list ?
I am number 31 and received mine on Christmas Eve.

EDIT : my mistake, the ACR manager only work with the smaller gimbal. there is no working application for the Beast right now..

and i have no idea what number i was on the line sorry Bérenger, but you are free to come over and give the gimbal a spin anytime this week !
