  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

all shipped this month you mean all remaining accessories, not all remaining gimbals ?

Yes, I mean all remaining accessories. We are doing all we can to build rest of units as fast as we can, but like I was writing we won't sacrifice quality for speed so it needs to take time.

We know that all of you would like to have their units in hands to play with them, so we are doing all we can not to stretch that any longer.

Would it be possible to set a rough expectation on delivery timing for the remaining units? February? March?

Thanks Peter, looking forward to the remaining items so I can streamline my setup and get the most out of my rig.

Hey Ryan, if needed i can point you to a cheap source for custom cables.
we got us a RED power female to 2 pin lemo to power the gimbal from a classic RED Vmount plate instead of the gimbal big batteries and another 2 pin lemo to male RED power to power the weapon/Raven directly from the tray with the jetpack (no lemo to dtap->dtap to lemo).

That's interesting, it's exactly what I had planned to do. PLease share !

We are doing all we can to finish deliveries in February. I'm working closely with guys from assembly, and they are doing all they can to work as fast as they can. But like I have said, I won't pressure them more because we can't sacrifice quality. You can ask guys that already received units, that there are no problems with V2 units from hardware side. Only problems we are aware of are with handling the unit, balancing and tuning them correctly - and you can easily solve it with our support help. I believe they will disappear when you guys will gaining experience with working with The Beast.

Well I think its about time i chime in here. First I'd like to say I have very limited experience when it comes to gimbals. I have always been an observer in situations where I see gimbal operators sweat buckets trying to balance a camera on their gimbal. In fact on my last movie I was promised over and over again that a specific gimbal was going to work and not to worry. Thank goodness it was a two camera production. The gimbal fail to work properly, and took way to long to balance.

Well, I am happy to report that "the Besteady 4 AKA THE BEAST" worked flawlessly out of the box (for me that is). I read the manual and in about 7 minutes (first time user) I was balanced and running around my house thinking WTF is wrong with those other operators and their gear that they couldn't get their shit together. This thing is F'in incredible, easy to balance and just works right out of the box.

My setup:
RED EPIC Dragon
Side handle with battery
XEEN 24mm prime
Gimbal shelf sliding plate
no camera top plate
no camera bottom plate
two gimbal small battery mounted in the the BEAST.

I used the 18" RED right angle Touch LCD cable (NOT IDEAL) with a 5" touch mounted to the handle.
a super thin 24" HDMI cable attached to a Radian multicast transmitter with its own power mounted to the handle (works well).

Obviously the the camera does not last long with the side handle battery. I am looking forward to the missing cables which should make this a usable setup.

The remote worked well though I had to strengthen the pan motor manually to get rid of a little vibration. One problem I can't seem to resolve is my pan direction. When I direct the BEAST to the right via the remote, it pans left and vice versa. I' not worried, I'll just have to call ACR support and figure it out.

Everything is not all roses and cuddles though. The XL stand is inadequate! It s a good idea but badly designed and flops around quite a bit. This makes autotune somewhat of an adventure. Peter Max if you are reading this a fix would be good to have. Its not a deal breaker but with such a great piece of kit it should also have a great stand that can support it properly.

like I said. The Beast is easy to balance easy to use. I'm 89% happy, I'm looking forward to be happier when the rest of the gear gets here. I hope there is a plan to fix that stand.

I'd also like to add that communication with ACR has improved 100 fold. Thanks for paying attention, returning emails and just hanging out, It calms the nerves.

Thanks for delivering a great product.

Hello Rion,

I'm very glad that you are almost 100% happy from your unit :) I hope you will be 100% happy when those cables will arrive to you.

And about cables - here is a sample of solution for you that we have received. The power from camera tray will be connected to 4x D-Tap cable and from it you will have D-Tap to LEMO cable to power Camera. You will be able to power other accessories if needed from that one. Final production cables will be in our hands in matter of days.

From top:
RED power cable
4xD-tap to Gimbal cable
Battery to Gimbal cable
RED touch cable

Peter - the Battery to Gimbal cable is the one that's currently shipping with V2 units (and V2 upgrades)? The rest are new?

Hello Andy,

yes, battery to gimbal cable is given to V2 Beast right now - to new units and to upgrades, when we are shipping those back. Rest of those cables are completely new and are so called "cable pack" we were speaking about. And they will send to you guys shortly.

Thanks for the clarification Peter :)

just a quick follow up, i had two cables made for the Beast.
one that allow to use a RED v mount plate to power the gimbal and camera.
and one that allow to power the epic directly from the tray, to keep it simple when you don't need to power accessories. i had that one made with the raven and jetpack combo in mind.

overall it makes the whole package really shine, that power management is really one of the gimbal highlight.

Loic,

I like the cable solutions you came up with. I kind of went a different way with the thought that ACR should come through with the cable package shortly. Also, I had a shoot so I didn't have the luxury of waiting any longer.

I had a very thin and flexible P-Tap to Red power cable made. Took my top plate off the camera and bolted it to one of the accessory clamps which came with the Beast and velcro'd a gold mount plate to it. With the 4-way P-Tap I'm powering all the AKS. So the AB battery is powering the camera and AKS only, and the small batteries inside the tubes of the rig are powering the Beast. BTW, those small batteries will power the gimbal for a couple of days, at least. This, coupled with the expensive flexible EVF cable and the Beast has been working fantastic.

When the cable package arrives I'll amend things and use the ones I'm using now as backups or for different configurations.

Hello,

I have received confirmation that our cables are almost ready for shipment - last cable I'm waiting are 4xDtap - LEMO cable. So we will start shipping those cables packs really soon.

Solution we have prepared is for powering Camera and accessories from camera shelf. I believe Loic and Steve approach is very interesting too - especially when you don't need any extra equipment. I believe we can prepare such cable solution and add them to our shop in case any of you will need such cables.

Best
