I know there are a couple out there now. I havent really kept up with the facebook. Is there a general Consensus on which brand is the best/ most reliable? In the beginning i remember people saying they had slide wobble issues with some of the brands.

Hello Jason,

Did you ever acquire a PL mount? If so, what has been your experience?

So far I have heard the vocas PL mount with integration into their side rib plates is the most stable and rock solid option currently available. I have also heard good things about the Kippertie PL mount and chin-strap but one or two accounts have said they had wobble with it while others say it's rock solid. I think both are good options to check out....and me personally would lean towards Kippertie but that's just me. Apparently how you install the Kippertie PL mount into the chin-strap is what makes the difference as to whether there is play or not.

Anyone have anything to add to this? I have some lenses with focus rings that require a fair amount of torque and I’m going to need a very solid connection but still trying to keep it as light as possible so I would rather not put it in a full cage.

I just today received the Wooden Camera PL mount. It comes with a set of shims (and also 3 support posts that can presumably be used with a WC cage). Feels quite solid, and was recommended to me by my retailer over the Metabones based on build quality. (I can't compare it directly to Vocas, but this retailer also carries their mount.) I don't have a lens to test it with, but will check in late next week if a planned shoot with an Angenieux Optimo DP zoom happens.

If you're concerned about lens torque, though, I'd recommend using at least some minimal additional support for the mount. The difference in performance won't likely be between Wooden Camera vs. Vocas vs. Brand X PL mount-- the weak spot will be the RF mount itself, which holds the lens adapter in place with a humble spring-based lock. Every adapter I've tried (including the WC) has a little play-- you can easily rotate it a couple mm when it's supposedly locked. But Tilta and Wooden Camera and Vocas and others offer mount adapter supports that require a minimal cage, but at least don't require bulky rod mounts.

Recently picked up the Wooden Camera PL mount, brought to Panavision and shimmed it (had to swap in the purple shim). The mount is incredibly solid when used with their baseplate and the integrated lens support. Once you tighten that lens support down it is rock solid. Would recommend.

I only have DSMC2 Revolva. Have not tested the Komodo version of it. But yes, as of now I don't see that Kipertie has any kind of competition. having 3 filters and clear class on a wheel is the best things since sliced bread as I see it.

Anybody use the Metabones RF to PL??

The Metabones is surprisingly well built and made. But not too surprisingly as they've had a few generations of PL adapters to improve upon. But it's on the heavier side of many of the adapters and you need to find a way to get that support foot to work, which will be easier soon.

I think when it comes to PL Adapters you have to look closely at your rig and how you want to build the camera. No matter what, you will be looking to support your PL Mount itself, though a few can live without that, I strongly recommend against letting it dangle from just the RF Mount alone once you add glass, follow focus, and matte boxes into the mix.

I'll be using one that's not just out yet as my main once it's all buttoned up, but the various other brands do a nice job of staying small and lightweight. Vocas is a bit larger, but that's due to how the support works.

The Metabones is well built for sure, maybe a bit heavy.
For those like me who have a Tilta Cage, I can tell you that the Tilta PL mount Support made for the Tilta PL mount and Cage will also fit nicely under the Metabones PL adapter.

I have the tilta cage too that came with the PL bracket. I just ordered the DZOFILM PL to RF in white. It should arrive this December. Also while in my 10 day grace period I took my lens back to Duclos to have them swap out the EF to PL. Until I bought the Tokina 11-20 T2.9 I haven't had any experience with real heavy duty lenses and was surprised to see how much my PDMovie FF stressed that EF to RF mount out. Totally unusable. looking forward to more stability! Hopefully everything will line up with the PL mount and the bracket that came with the Tilta Komodo cage.

Ordered the 8Sinn Evolution mount w/ support bracket. Should be here Monday. Also super interested in that DZOFILM mount - can't wait to hear how it is!

Also spied on Instagram what I think is a Bright Tangerine prototype. I really love their design and probably will regret my 8Sinn purchase if it ever comes to market. Like an even stiffer version of the Vocas mount.

Tested the Komodo Revolva today. Just fantastic as the Dsmc2 iteration. The chin strap is great. Lot of mounting options and nice to keep on camera even if switching to EF.

The Vocas is (by all reports) the best currently available (if you need a rock solid connection). Which isn't surprising given it's braced on all sides.

Bright Tangerine's version will offer essentially the same functionality - with the added advantage that they're building brackets to support several of more popular PL-mounts (including Kippertie's Revolva).

If you want rigid lens mounting, I'd go the Vocas if buying now. But if internal ND is essential for you, I'd wait for the Bright Tangerine so that you can pair it with the Revolva.

The Bright Tangerine top-handle (which slides from the handle, rather than the base), their 501/Arri Dovetail combo baseplate, and their NATO/Arri-locating pin side and top rails - all strike me as the most well thought out rigging option so far.

The baseplate will let you pull the camera off a tripod and mount it directly to something like the Ronin RS2, which I can see having a lot of appeal for people.

Is the bright tangerine announced yet or do you just have the inside track? I haven't seen any official specs anywhere.

Just for those of you still looking, the metabones pl adapter paired with the tilta baseplate makes a pretty solid connection for pl glass. No movement when it’s locked down. The tilta lens support that comes with the cage baseplate fits like it was made for it. The metabones adapter is heavy as other have pointed out but it does seem pretty well made. I will prob swap to something else in the future, but I’m up and running and excited about the possibilities of this camera.

That's good to know since I have the same cage and waiting for the DZOFILM PL mount. I was also wondering how stable that Tilta PL base plate is going to be. Thanks.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but, which PL mount are you currently using, Phil? Just ordered my KOMODO - sourcing AKS now...
