Hey everyone just wanted to let you know the TorchLED light series by Switronix Inc. is coming soon. We should have a launch in the next few weeks and a new section in our website for them with the all the info you need. Check this thread or contact me for further info. If there is a specific dealer within our dealer locator that's closest to you or you regularly buy from...ask them for further information or if they will be carrying this product.
 
I think Rowland means that since you can take it underwater, it has no comparison.

Jeff at Rosco collaborated with his project managers and looked over the information I provided them. He doesn't know where Luminous Film is having their lights made, but they seem to be nearly identical.

Some benefits, he told me, to the Rosco LitePads are 1) Rosco has a greater variety of sizes in stock. Luminous Film only has a handful of sizes, and custom sizes can take around 3 weeks according to their website. 2) Rosco has kit versions of their lights in stock, and it doesn't appear that Luminous Film has any kind of kits for their lights. 3) Rosco has a greater selection of accessories. 4) Rosco has their name, and with that comes the warranty and dependability of an established film industry company.

I also found out that Rosco's light pads are water resistant, but should not be totally submerged as they are not water proof. However, Jeff at Rosco told me that if someone wanted a custom LitePad that was water proof, they can definitely make that happen.

**EDIT**: Jeff from Rosco just called me back, he told me that as far as he knows Luminous Film does not have access to lights that are comparable to their High Output (HO) lights. The lights Luminous Film has are comparable to what Rosco calls their Daylight (DL) lights. The High Output (HO) lights are what we stock, and are the ones that would be of more interest to filmmakers.
 
Many of you have been asking about our new CL-LED600 panel and we're ready with pricing information on that now. This is what the product looks like. 600 LEDs, 12VDC input, dimmer, bank select switches, photometrics roughly equivalent to a 600w fresnel. Available in daylight and tungsten configurations.

This panel would normally sell for $479 on our site but for all those early adopter DVXUsers and RedUsers, we will be selling for $379. This includes the panel, angle adjustment stand adapter, removable barndoors (slide in and out of accessory holder like our studio model flos), 12 VDC Power supply and as if all that wasn't enough, we'll be throwing in a free nylon padded carrying case for the fixture and accessories for DVXUsers and RedUsers.

The battery plate accessories will be $125 normally but will be on sale for $99. They will be easy to install by the customer and will be available in the AB or V mount types.

The included DC power supply has an attached strap and carabiner (like the ballast of our CDM 150 fresnel) to allow it to hang off the knobs on a stand rather than gathering dust and lint on the floor. The cable from power supply to fixture is 6 feet long and the cable from power supply to wall is 15 feet long.

As of right now, availability is early December for this panel and accessories.

Same. That thing looks rad. Will it take Red batteries on that V-Mount? Whats the light output equivalent to?

I don't know why not, but I do plan to test it for sure. Any V or AB Mount should work fine. The RED battery is 140WH so that means it should run for just under 3 hours (or so).

What it is equivalent to is roughly like a 600w fresnel that's midway between spot and flood. I'll try to post actual light meter readings next week when I have my meter here where the fixture is. The quality of light should be between hard and soft. So, the throw should be excellent but there will be multiple shadows (unlike the 600w fresnel which is one small and concentrated point light source vs. the panel which is 600 microscopic point light sources each with a hard light and a lot of throw and is thus considered more of a broad source and somewhat soft but not as soft as a flo). So, while it comes close to the light meter readings of a 600w fresnel, it doesn't have all the behaviors of one of course because you don't get one shadow and therefore can't light a cookie well through it.

Yup, but I have a bit different idea for that then what others have done. When you have a panel with 600 LEDs, it makes sense to do it in a small form factor because for that kind of thing you want small for the various places people use those things (filming in cars and such). When you're talking about 1200 LEDs, you want a bigger surface area and that's for other uses, so maybe there are other ways to do it--more like what you've been used to using in some other kinds of fixtures.

We found some LED tubes we really like and what we'll probably do is make a fixture like our portable flo's (if you've seen those) with lollipop and all on the back.

Each tube is about 24" long and has 200 LEDs in it.

We'd use 6 of those to make a fixture thats just a bit longer than our biax 55w flo fixtures and about midway in size between a 2x55 and a 4x55. Voila, you have 1200 LEDs in a form factor that we already know people love, lollipop mounting for any angle adjustment, weight is about as light as anything you've ever seen due to the polycarbonate shell and no major electronics / heavy ballasts or need for reflectors--that cuts quite a bit of weight right there. I think its better personally than just one big circuit panel with 1200 LEDs. You even have a clear tube over the LEDs to keep them from getting dirty.

We won't get it done this time because we have so much cooking right now but it's definitely on the list for next time. It'll run off 12VDC and no reason it can't have the bank select (by tube) and dimming as well, like the 600 has. It could run off batteries of course but since the draw will be around 100w and its more used where you'd use flos, batteries may not be so important.

You can extend this idea even further of course because these tubes are available in 4 foot as well (about 400 LEDs each). Then you can have that monster 4 foot 4 bank type fixture that's super light and has better throw than your average T12 Kino Flo fixture like that would have.
 
Richard, the CL-LED600 sounds like an excellent deal for the money, please sign me up for two with the V mount plate right away :)

I read on your homepage that shipping to Europe is best handled manually. An email to info [at] coollights.biz will be sufficient, how to transfer the credit card information when not using your secured online ordering system? Will the items ship directly from China or out of the US? From the US, FedEx seems to work reasonably well for Austria.
