  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My name is Vinny from Switronix Inc. I wanted to share with you whats coming up as far as LED lighting fixtures which may be of use to you. It will be up on our website shortly.

New 'TORCHLED' Dimmable LED Light Fixtures by Switronix. Highly adaptable with 1/4-20 threads on top and bottom of the units. I saw you guys talking about the Bogen nano clamp (which is like $30). You can use that piece with an arm and mount these lights anywhere on your rig.

TL-50 Features

We have been testing these lights for the past 6 months and have gotten nothing but positive feedback. They will be available mid October. There are a few reviews in the works and we should have them shortly. I would be willing to offer a demo to a user within the forum but not sure if that fits within the sites guidelines.

LED I guess don't compare to a fresnel as far as throw distance of LED technology. Maybe I misunderstood the answer myself because I also asked this question at NAB.

But yes it's powerful!
 
I spoke with a Rosco rep yesterday and their Pro Gaffer's Kit is in the neighborhood of $3,000. Look it up online and you'll see what you get for that amount.

Haha I'll give you credit on that one. Now buy my stuff or I'm coming for ya (just kidding)....

The TL-50 powers from the internal battery, and will run 2.5 hours. The TL-68 and TL-88 are DC, although AC power supplies will be available. Those two models come with a cable which plugs into the light, the other end is a d-tap, which is the connection on the RED V Plate. It'll also power from an AB Gold Mount.
 
I have been running a zylight z50 for a couple years. I also own a litepanel micro that i picked up at NAB this year but they are not in the same class. The z50 is an awesome piece of pro gear, built solid with a smart battery set-up and unbelievable features. It can wirelessly link to other zylights and change colors, fade, change color temps etc. REDICULOUS. Charlie Collias at zylight is the man. There is a video about the bigger Z90 at NAB at

the zylight certainly seems full featured, but it doesn't look very powerful. How bright is it? can you use it for anything other than a on-camera light?

Thanks Jeff for the comment, it was a pleasure bringing the LEDz at LART, and I have since used them and own several of them in all sizes, I'm now testing the new BRUTE 16 and will put it against the ARRI 650 Tungsten the ARRI 200 HMI, and the KINO FLO 4' 4BANK.


For this solution I suggest the use of the MINI PAR, this are fully dimmable from o-1 to 100 and are Bright little sucker if you need them to be.

My only additional comment is in agreement with Greg (digitalfx), the LED-Z do require additional diffusion to eliminate the stepped edges of the fall-off and shadows. That was my biggest concern over the LED-Z lights at LART and was told then that there would be various lens and diffuser options. I don't know if this has ever happened, now that it has been a bit over 9 months... Like any light system, there are various nuances, limitations, quirks, etc...

The multiple shadow casting on the LEDz fixture do to the multiple light sources been sooo bright, it is been taken in care by applying any silk to the front of the fixtures, the BRUTE series have a removable frame in the front element which allow for the insertion of any kind of gelatine or silk filters such as the Roscos for changing color temperature and or simly eliminating the multiple shadow casting effect, and off course also the silks in different thickness for creating that soft lighting such as in the use of soft boxes or Kinos.

I have been using them for all purposes of both Photography and Cinematography projects in all budgets and the results are always spectacular, and the bonus is always not to have to carry around Huge generators, but the best of all is that the Models/actresses love me for not Cooking them with Tungsten or HMI fixtures:) and the MUA love me for having to do less retouching on the Make up.

I saw these today at HD Expo in NYC. They will be available from 16x9 Inc later in the year. One unit is the equivalent of the 300w the other a 650. Both will run off a vLock camera battery. They are focusable and had a good throw. The $650 will list at about $1800, less for the 300. Very intriguing.

I looked at the Nilas last week. Amazing design and very impressive output. Heavy and expensive too.

but on their website they`re just talking about 40 and 60 watts.

could you make an shot from the rosco 6x6 in action? I'm very interested in getting two. Did you get the 440cd/m2 or 220cd/m2?
