How can the ALEXA 35 achieve 17-stops of dynamic range?
by REDSHARK
from the article.
"Modern cameras almost invariably use some degree of digital noise reduction, although alternative terminology may be employed to soften the blow."
I've never heard that RED uses "some degree of digital noise reduction". 4.6k with noise reduction shouldn't even get an MTF of 4k... how can they clame 4k? Who cares though?
It's unlikely. Arri says:I just can't wait for the 6K license.
'Twas a joke aimed at their "4K" up-res output in the 2.8K cameras. It's unlikely. Arri says:
Sensor Maximum Number of Photosites and Size: 4608 x 3164 (27.99 x 19.22 mm / 1.102x 0.757") Ø 33.96 mm / 1.337"

I think for most users, 4.6K will be plenty, especially for 4K delivery.

I think if you can afford $70,000+ for a camera, you'll also have a lot o' dough for camera cards and backup drives.I also think so looking at the data rates it will eat up their hard drives...

Certainly true but it's not just a matter of costs but also how often you have to swap cards then during a shoot.

didn't see any ALEXA 35 footage on the server yet
The upload last Friday was corrupt, they are working on getting it re-uploaded.
If it's the same exact upload, sample footage is specific shots from the Encounters films, 80GB, 26 shots. I'm certain they'll have some other material uploaded at some point as well.
At the moment you'll need permission from Arri to get the SDK for various applications, but I would expect that to change shortly.
