  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Apple destroys MacBook Pro

PS. that shot on your computer is stunning. :D

Thank you!

A Pro laptop should have at a minimum

1. A fast processor
2. Minimum two drive bays
3. Dual Ethernet
4. Wireless tech
5. External optical drive
6. Hi rez screen
7. Digital video output
8. Dedicated storage port
9. Multipurpose internal expansion
10. Optional screens matte, glossy
11. Workstation level graphics

Yeah... and weigh less than 20 pounds.

i did get jealous when i saw a friends pc laptop with hd display, blueray burner, internal raid, integrated esata ports and fw 800 ports..etc

for much less than i paid for my mbp.
but i have iphoto, ilove, ishit, idonkey and lovely ifart

but the limitations of the mac pro are even worse in my opinion.

i switched to mac with red, hoping i can switch back to pc again soon (waiting for rrushes,ra,proxysupport and the rocket)

Hey was HD display equated to 1366x768?

I'm about to build a Dual i7 Hackintosh. Money isn't the only reason I use this stuff, It's control over the Hardware.

I would pay $500 more just to not run out dated Windows. Yes I've been using PC's since 300 baud modem BBS days and servers off floppy drives. That's why I can't take it anymore.

O' BTW... will Snow Leopard work on Hackintosh systems?

Beware the Hackintosh

Beware the Hackintosh

Guys,

I've built a couple of Hackintoshes to evaluate their viability as a real world tool, and in general I find them to be very problematic.

If you want to spend your time hacking computers they might be an answer, but if you just want to get work done, not so much.

I agree with everything else here. I'm super frustrated with the fact that I can't have a "Pro" tower or mini tower with standard 3into2 5into3 drive bays, blu-ray, and a video card that isn't two years out of date.

As aforementioned the disparity is even greater on the portable front.

That said, Windows blows. 64 bit drivers are still not available for my blu-ray duplicator, the inability to boot from an external drive, and try to find a case with a firewire 800 connector.

I really want to keep to OSX, but Apple... you're blowin it.
My $.02

Steve

Have hope!
If you remember the 1st version of the Macbook Pro eliminated the FW800 port!
Enough people screamed and it came back in the next update. I think if enough stink is made then the express card port will reappear, at least as a build to order option if nothing else.

I'm sharing your hope, Evin! Just in the past 36 hours or so, there's a lot more outcry over the fleecing of the 15" MBP than there ever was over the missing firewire port. If the complaints continue and sales figures reflect discontent in the market, Apple will bring back the ExpressCard and dedicated GPU.

I agree Hacks take a while to get stable, I've gotten around it with making images of Clean OS's ready to go or using motherboards that work really well.

I would be impressed if apple brings a new laptop with a portable i7 processor, We'll need it for Epic.

Isn't it just the low end $1699.00 2.53GHz 15"/13" MBP's that are missing the dedicated 9600M GPU? The 15 inch 2.66, 2.8 GhZ both have a dedicated GPU one with 256MB and the other with 512MB.

Yeah, I guess you're right on that one, the 9600GT is an upgrade option. But it's the ExpressCard that's the real issue here.

So if I got a Sony EX3, for example, how could I get the footage onto the new 15" Macbook Pro?

1. Purchase the Sony USB reader. It's MUCH slower than just sticking the SxS cards directly in a computer with an expresscard slot. = OT + take-out, meal penalties, etc, etc for your data wrangler. Every day.

2. Shoot with MxR, MxM or Hoodman Expresscard to SD adapters.
Downside: Can't shoot slow-mo. SD cards can be finicky, takes some research to find the ones who can record + takes testing of cards before recording commences. Basically you always need at least a few SxS cards on 'stand-by' in case the SD cards don't work. Transfer time much slower, I got about 19Mbytes/s read out of the Transcend 16Gig cards I used for a job. 20% of the batch bought from Amazon did not meet spec. Not an official solution supported by Sony, so could be taken away with a firmware 'update'.....?
Upside: SD cards are cheap enough to just keep the footage on them. And they're slow enough so you can attach mulitple readers at once through USB, unless that SD card slot shares the USB bus....
