  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Strange question, I'm sure, but can the image on the RED LCD be flipped?

Why do I ask this?

Simple. Because it will be a lot easier for me to use the LCD if I can mount it upside from the bottom hole on the LCD and the top hole of my side handle. That way it gets the whole LCD mounting arm on top out of the way of my reach for the follow focus.

Any thoughts?

Thanks much.

Stephen

I'd extend that question one further step:

Can the entire image be flipped during recording, or can we simply flip the output signals?

There are some special lense systems that produce upside down images. It is soooo easy to reverse the display upside down in firmware, it simply should be done!!!

Thumbs up for this one!

Hi there, Axel. . .

Despite its importance to me (and, now, you), we're not getting any action on this thread, are we?

:-(

I'm sure hoping someone has a trick up their sleeve for this.

Stephen

we have shot hundreds of cards in steadicam low mode upside down, we flip the image in post...

however, beauty of red lcd and red arm..,it can be turned any which way...

Not at this time as Evin stated

Not a bad idea, and some LCDs in the film world can do this (Transvideo et al)

David is dead right and is expressing exactly my concern. Either I or my DP DO plan to pull focus ourselves, and, without the ability to hang the monitor upside down FROM ABOVE, the monitor support arm is EXACTLY in the way of the follow-focus wheel.

Since all that would be required would be a very simple "flip" function inverting the image (surely the world's easiest software fix!), it seems like something that is not only useful, but also easy to address.

If its a program cycle reading the lines, a "-" symbol in the source code and/or exchanging start and end values of the loop should do the fix :)

The monitor overlay can stay as it is.

If its done, it should be written as a flag, so software could later detect the images and flip or not flip them, according to user wishes (because in some cases it must be flipped to be correct).

Just some added thoughts here!

I use a side handle level with the end of the lens, and mount the LCD to that - easy access to all the lens barrels that way.

I do see your point, though - this should be an option.

Hi,

I'm relaunching this thread, as I would realy like the ability to flip the image (more so in the EVF than on the LCD) implemented, for shoulder shooting. I'm lefty when it comes to my eyes, and I like to shoot with my camera on my left shoulder. As it is quite unpractical to have to attach the EVF from it's right side, I would like to be able to flip the image instead.

Cheers,
Damien

Yep. . . I STILL want an image flip option. . . even though I now own the EVF. It should be the easiest switch the RED team makes!

While they're at it, a sideways mirror option would be occasionally useful too, although not as useful as vertical flip.
