  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Another STH v LLO Thread

I know both olpf, or actually dragon as a camera is fantastic. But what made the last BCS episode look like a school project compared to the previous episodes... It probably has nothing to do with OLPFS but it looked like somebody dialed in the exposure completely wrong pretty much all the way trough and I never really seen worse lowlights. It´s to the point that I think they must have done it on purpose, trying to match the videoish look of the title sequence for the show or something...

Look at the train station interior for example, it´s complete video burn in the windows and harsh contrast on the interior and terrible noise in the darks. Me thinking such scene with the little movment and so on it could have been shot beautifully as a text book example using HDRx... or even the lowlight olpf would definitely cover the darks and still not clip/ burn the highlights in one pass, so why the clipping and noise filled blacks?

also in the bar scenes the darks are really screaming for light, there is video noise larger than cornflakes all over the place.. and I like noise, but this was pretty far past that dragon texture I like so much.

Any one here that worked on the show that has some insight?

Here is a motion & Stills ting we did with STOLPF. Even though we messed around with coloured light for the backgrounds the skin tones where pretty freaking perfect right out of camera. Also we worked with this client on both Alexa and MX before and they been pretty picky with the colours of the clothing, bringing the clothes to our grading session etc. and before they been going a bit off in different directions... but with 5600K tungsten and a correct white balance the STOLPF is really dead on, not only for skin but even for the wide variety of the clothes.

The film and larger sized prints pulled from it was part of a marketing campaign for a "fashion online game" see... http://marketingland.com/bjorn-borg-introduces-new-fashion-line-online-game-116252

And here is something similar that we shot with a mix of MX and Lowlight OLPF. But here we processed colours much more so you can not really compare the two, two different director choices. But the skins on this source is scary clean as well... So for me there is not really a need for STOLPF as the red orbs and other artefacts are pretty much gone from the LLOLPF now.

Yeah Episode 6 was really looking terrible. Especially the first 12 minutes. Too bad, as I think it was the best episode so far. Mikes monologue at the end was fantastic.

I thought that was a stylistic choice done deliberately to delineate past from present. The blown out look only occurs on those scenes. Both the train station and the bar scene are past events.

It had to have been a stylistic choice. No one at that level would do that unintentionally. That being said it did bother me and I tried turning down the contrast on my TV for those scenes.
